A quick report on a trip to lost coast with a couple of Buds. Got on the water with Ken on Monday afternoon. Ocean super calm and water clarity not bad for this spot. In the water for an hour without seeing one sinble ab. Patchy up here for sure. Ken was diving about eighty yards away when he started hollering. Knew it meant he'd found a giant. Jumped into the yak turned on camera and shot some video as I paddled up to him. He thrust  the ab out of  the water and proclaimed, "trophy ab". A 10 3/8" giant abalone, his first trophy. Super excited for him. Ab was in plain sight on side of a rock in ten feet of water. A bit later, I found an gauged a 9 7/8" and left him to grow that last 1/8". We  saw seven abs for the day after four hours in the water.  Dove next day with a couple of other friends.  Vis was better and we saw more abs. I saw seven and gauged three at 9 1/2". Saw a giant in the far end of a big hole that was well out of reach. Caught a couple of nice Blacks on the way in and headed home. Left the ocean in flat calm conditions wishing to play hookie from work to stay another day. Pic of Ken and his giant attached.

Nice work, Shannon.  Thanks for the phone report too.  You're on a disciplined path right now - watch as others do as you would, and reap the harvest of good will.  Watch out for the bitterness, because it's always there waiting for a weak point.  It's all about the karma, Brother.  Your 11 is still growing.  :smt001

It is those abs in the "out of reach" areas that made me put together a 24" iron........It has come in VERY handy.

Let say you can reach the Ab with your 24" iron, just wonder how you're able to get it out of the hole afterward if your hand can't reach it?

You can put the iron on the ab, let it grab onto the iron and pull everything out.

Haven't thought of that.  Sounds like you've done it before.  Thanks for the tip.
