Not much to tell so I'll keep this short. Met Ernest at the ramp before 7, launched into choppy water and a steady breeze. Drifted live shiners for several hours as the tide went out. The bay remained choppy and the wind gradually increased as time went on. Caught one smallish ray, it was wing hooked and imitating head shakes so I thought it was a halibut until I saw it. Landed at low tide. Maybe next time. Good to have met you, Ernest.

Nice meeting you Mike. Well, at least the guys in a PB caught a keeper halibut with frozen anchovy. What I didn't understand was why the seas in the North and South coasts were flat while we had to deal with 20 kt wind in the bay :smt013. I won't quit until I catch myself a hali this year. Just ordered a gaff. Maybe I'll put it to good use next week :smt003.

Thanks for the fishing report.  Would love to see the picture of the wing-hooked ray if you have it.

I missed the meet up fellas, was oncall and had to go out at 4 am. I thought I was missing it too, since over the bridge and around SF the water looked fairly calm. When I got back home on the island close to noon, it was surely blowing, weird indeed.

Glad to hear you guys got out there though. Nothing beats just being there.

My wife and I got out on Sunday last minute for a few hours around 10ish, and didnt land anything on live shiners as well. But we did meet another Kayaker and he landed one. He was from San Jose, name was Thomas, and was in an army green Yak, not sure of the brand. He lent us a few tips for next time. He uses frozen chovies with a flasher setup. He used a fishfinder and schooled us on how to find the good spots even if you dont have one. It had to do with holding the rod and bouncing it along and feeling the bottom change with dips and hard pack and sand, etc., very educating. He pointed out a few locations that would be ideal and told us that we should zig zag it depending on the current, to get int he strike zone. He also mentioned something about a spoon bait and how to set it up. Ill give you the scoop Ernest, and maybe we will get em with this new concauction.

Sounds good. I actually used a flasher that day. Followed one of the setups in the Fishing Tips forum. Didn't seem to help me that day. The weather was blowing one way, the tide was going the other. My yak ended up pretty much stationary. It was a weird situation where I couldn't get a decent drift.
