I can feel your excitment,,,,congrats on the new boat

if you're attaching your rod holders (PVC pipe) to your box, make sure nothing protrudes into the rod holder that would interfere with the rod going in and out freely.  Guess why I know about that one. :smt010

Amen on that! I used 1 1/2" PVC and I should have gone a bit larger. Measure your largest rod butt (net or gaff) and get PVC that has a big enough inside diameter with some extra room. Rivets are gonna be hard b/c you can't get the tool to work on the front and if you mount from inside the box the rivet ends will be inside the tube. I ended up using pan head screws and made sure to file the edges/rough spots down. As long as the tubes are large enough you shouldn't have much of an issue.

to connect rod holders to the milk crate, I just got some long UV protected wire tye's and looped them through the crate openings and around the pvc tubes.

sometimes they break, but it is a 30 second fix to put a new one on.

Looks like you are getting close to being set up, just get the basics cause you will see some amazing setups on the water and will most likely want to change once you get a system going.

Hey Porky... I'm right where you are - Hopefully just a couple of weeks away from getting my hands on a T-15. Regarding your requests for inputs on paddles, here's some info that you may find helpful:

Here are some of the considerations to be weighed when deciding which paddle is best. A more detailed description of each item can be found at the Werner site by following their fit guide (http://www.wernerpaddles.com/fit_guide/).

USAGE - Many manufacturers do not have a designated "fishing" category, so "touring" is what to look for.

Touring?
Recreational?
Whitewater?
Canoe?
Fishing?
Kids?
Stand-up surf?

PADDLING ANGLE (low vs. high) - low is most common

BLADE SIZE (small, medium, large) - mid size if most common for touring

SHAFT SHAPE (straight or bent) - bent offers a little better entry into the water and less stress on the wrists, but is more expensive

SHAFT MATERIALS (aluminum, fiberglass, carbon) - go up in price and down in weight as you move from aluminum --> carbon

SHAFT DIAMETER - some vendors offer different sizes depending on the size of your hand

PADDLER HEIGHT - the taller the paddler, the longer the paddle

BOAT WIDTH -  the wider the kayak, the longer the paddle

For my first paddle, I went with the Seven2 ISO. It seems to have received good reviews as a decent paddle for the money. Just Google "Seven2 ISO" for lots of feedback on this paddle -- almost all of it favorable. Here are the specs for the Seven2 ISO:

Weight: 940g / 33 oz
Blade: Fiberglass
Lengths: 220 and 230 cm
Shaft: Carbon fiber
Offset: 360 deg

Be sure to read up on the technology section of the Seven2 website at http://www.seven2.com/technology.html for details on the paddle's grip, shaft, blade and 360 deg offset.

to connect rod holders to the milk crate,
Stoggie

and traveling home, don't forget to take the net out of the rod holder...I just donated one to the road :smt009 brand new didn't even get to break it in.... :smt010 only good thing is when the crate tipped back from the wind all my other gear that I "didn't" use didn't join the net.... :smt003
It's all about Today!!! Because who knows what tomorrow will bring... so Better get OTW n GetSome

(back to the paddle recommendation theme)

BTW... I'm 6'0" tall and OK T-15 Angler measures 29" across, so I went with the 230cm Seven2 ISO paddle. The T-13 is actually half an inch wider, so all other things being equal you'd probably still want to stick with the 230 length.

The paddle feels great on terra firma (as if that means anything). Though EWB (on this forum) is using this paddle on the same ride and here's the feedback he had for me:

"I have had to for about 9 months and love it. The grips are really great. I have some finger issues (arthritis) so they really help. The paddle really seems to have some good flex which adds to the stroke. I'm about 6'3" and the length and grip spacing work great. I have a OK T13 so I think 230 would work just fine for the T15."

Best,
Jeff (a.k.a. Steelerhead)
