Since my grandma turned 70 she's been doing some crazy stuff, tattoos, skydiving and now kayaking. She bought her kayak last year, and goes out a few times a year. She invited me up and I told my mom and sister to come up so they could try the kayak out as well. Had a fun day paddling, swimming and I got some fishing time in. Caught a few bass, and as many bluegill as I wanted. The lake is just warming up since it's almost 4,000 feet in elevation.

Sweet report Jeff.  Good stuff getting the fam together and out on yaks.  Enjoy your time with grams - mine is just a few years older but in her last few days on earth. :smt010

Not that I'm interested in fishing the lake, but might you share it's name.  Looks beautiful.  It must be private, no?

BTW, from the looks of it, you got some self rescue practice in. :smt044

Nice work, Jeff.  That's cool to see the 3 generations of ladies on the water.  Keep it coming.   :smt001

I am very close to her and I spend as much time as I can with her.

It is White Pines Lake in Arnold, very small but fun for the family. A nice swim beach for the kids and lots of picnic tables near the water, and it's public.

Yeah I forgot to add I was jumping out and practicing getting back in, piece of cake. My sister was next to me in the 10' SIS and she jumped out, I was like oh no thats going to be fun getting back in and she got in first try without taking on any water, I was surprised lol.

Hey Jeff, I am heading up that way next week. Not for fishing though but for my
company's yearly golf tournament. I love visiting the Caleveras trees. They are
amazing.

awesome report J! and thanks for sharing that great adventure. my folks are in their 70s and are also full throttle these days. come to think of it they were always this way, but still rockin.
It looks like shes got the self load handled.
Let her know if she puts an old bath mat down ,for the tip of the boat thats on the ground, it will help prevent it from slipping/falling/hurting her or wearing on a point in the hull.
thanks again. calling my folks now

That is a nice quiet lake. I was fishing there a few years ago and a cal fire chopper came down about 100 yards out to get water. It was an awsome sight.

Hey I know that lake- I used to live about a mile away from it. My son was up there last weekend and got the same results. Bluegill!!! They are suppose to be stocking it next week since it pasesed its Environmental assessment according to Bill at Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods. I may head up there after finals. I will need the break :smt003

Great report Jeff. Very nice to see Aunt Arlene, Grandma to you - Aunt to me, on the water with your Mom and sister. Looks like it was a great day on the water with the family. Aunt Arlene is a nut and I love her passion.

I could tell right away you guys were on White Pines Lake. I spent plenty of time in the summer growing up at that lake and even went to Hazel Fischer school next door. That brought back some great memories. Thanks again for sharing. I love the photos, especially the one looking over the spillway. We walked across that several times on our way to the rope swing.

We are going to make a trip up that way this summer to kayak on Lake Alpine. I will make sure I give you a holler and call Arlene as well. It looks like she is ready to go. I imagine we are going to have quite the plastic navy this year at Vierra's Resort.

Awesome report. It's an inspiration. I've been trying to get my family out on the water without any success. Unlike me, they are afraid of the water :smt009 :smt009

That's so cool.

Getting everyone on the water like that.

Give a shout out to Grandad....I hope I got that kind of spirit at 70.
