Got up late this morning as we were at a BBQ till the wee hours of the morning. Wifey was working at the hospital (holiday pay - chaching!!) so when the princess woke up we decided to hit the lake. Grabbed wonder mutt and was thinking of heading to Folsom. However when we were coming down the hill I saw a dozen wakeboard boats heading in that direction and made the executive decision to go to Lake Natoma instead. Plus it was almost noon and I knew the bikini hatch should be in full swing.

Got on the water and indeed the bikini hatch was going off nicely. Fished a rattletrap for a little bit and then found a nice shady point with a steep bank and wood. Caught a nice 3# spot. Didn't even know there were spots in this lake. Anyway went back to the bike bridge and threw around the bridge pilings. Whammo!!! Big chunk pushing 4# small mouth.

Two words: "Ichy Wacky"!!!!

Princess had to go potty so we paddled back to the launch ramp to the bathrooms. Two girls had surfboards so while I loaded up the boat and gear, the princess "rode the perfect wave like Cody the penguin". After loading up, wonder mutt and I played fetch with a stick in the water while the princess continued to surf the zone on a pancake flat piece of water. Oh what it is to be five and content with the little things..........

Home by 3pm with cold beer waiting for the basketball game to start. Life is good!!!

Tight lines!

Nice report jrsyboy.  Excellent looking basses...I fished that set-up down at Lake Naciamento and managed to get a few fish on it.  Your little girl looks like she is hooked on fishing, and surfing too!

By the way, I don't believe there was a bikini hatch at Lake Natoma today.  Send pics as evidence  :smt004

Smallies and smiles..doesn't get much better than that.

That's one of the best looking bass I've seen come out of that lake. Good job.
Nice job on the smiles too.

Nice fish but even nicer that you include your daughter in it. To me that speaks highly of the kind of person you are! I see lots of that in this club. BUT......coming from me that doesn't mean much  :smt044 Just ask my wife  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Rob, is that a spot that Kendall is holding? Spot mouths don't extend past the eye?

You guys are starting to worry me. Look at the other photo and the diagram I made to help with fish identification. The corner of the mouth clearly doesn't extend beyond the eye. Plus it had teeth on it's tongue (the princess really liked putting her finger on the fish's toothy tongue..).

I just hope we can all agree the second bass is a smallmouth?

Thanks for all the compliments on the princess. I wish I could say I planned for her to turn out so great, but I had nothing to do with it. I'll still take credit though.........

I hope this ends the largemouth/Kentucky spotted bass identification seminar. I suggest we descend on Folsom Lake to do an in depth study on the two species.

Tight lines.

Seems to me if the mouth were closed the angle of the jaw would be behind the eye, but it really doesn't matter because it is a nice fish and a cool report. But where are the pictures of the BIKINI HATCH!!!   :smt005
