Started with a lazy morning, didn't get on the water till 9:30

Wasn't apying attention to the swell sets and got surprised with a full stack. My nose was in the air and I thought I would have a yard sale. Kept enough momentum to get through it. At least I put on a show for the tourists.

I paddled around the wharf to the kelp beds. I had rigged up a halibut setup the nite before and wanted to give it a try.

I dropped it down outside of the kelp and in no more than 10 minutes BAM!

Pulled up a 27" halibut. netted him to get a measurement then beat the crap out of him.

Paddled back to the launch and was home before 11:00

Capitola can surprise if you're in the right place at the right time.

Way to go, Stoggie!  That catch should inspire some tacklebox replenishing without as much heartache.   :smt001

That's awesome, just when I was tending to think the bite had turned off. Nice catch and nice pics. I was planning on heading out that way but just confirmed plans with a friend to try Stillwater or Carmel tomorrow instead.

You see, there is a reason we keep going back and back.  When this happens, we have enough fuel to keep trying for months.
