Dove today just south of Russian Gulch.  Wind, pretty substanial swell, decent vis, about 10 foot.  Shot 1 5lb red and a blue.  Took home a couple 8 3/4 but very fat abs.  Just nice to be in the water

We were in about 30-40 ft of water.  Do you dive with a light.  He was in a cave and I would have never seen him without a light.  If you don't use a light, you should.  It makes all the difference in the world.

Sledge for deep freediving its all in the fins you use. Guys who freedive that deep use really long fins that get you down quick.
The problem with long fins is diving around rocks and kelp and when you are shore diving trying to get in and out of the water.
I use scuba fins which work good for dives to 30 feet or so. You dont see many reds but lots of blues,  blacks,  black and yellows and gophers with quite a few lings.

Nice fish Dave. Were you at Russian gulch north or the one by home? You can get deeper than 30ft with most fins. Its all about bottom time 314.
