Got there an suited up.  And getting ready to do the portal with yaks...no pin for ab card.... so we load back up drive up to the camp host who offers us some pins!! Thank you good sir :smt003  so we get back, set out, and its nasty conditions...6 ft NW choppy windy...start looking for abs by the caves...not a lot to see... paddled around to where we scored last time, my Buddy's a seal, he was diving in 15-20 ft got a couple of 9+ me on the other hand was chumming into my snorkel...paddle back to shore grabbed the rods, and crab pot...and thought "just do it"  Set my pot and proceeded to chum again...couldn't stop, forgot my dramine @ home.... :smt010 no fish. one small ab, and no crab... :smt009

But anyday in the "Big Blue" is a great day indeed...

tried to get my buddy to snap some pics with his phone...he says don't be telling everybody about our spots...i say "yes lets just keep "RUSSIAN GULCH a SECRET" and "MENDOCINO HEADLANDS a SECRET" "what about those 10 other guys we see abing should we tell them to keep it a secret also?"  Keith if your reading this "I love ya man" but that's what this NCKA is aal about, keeping each other informed so that when we go, we have some insider info.... and get more meaningful experience.... :smt001

Saw just a few yaks...one in particular, dropped a crab pot, and was fishing with not any luck... I was feeling so crappy didn't ask if he was NCKA...

Anyways not much love for me...but "I'll be back"

tight lines....
Mike...

PS saw a friendly Game warden checked our tags...my buddy marked his up at the rig, could've had a ticket...i marked mine just out of water...he was scoping other ab divers seeing if they were swapping abs...so be aware there out there, be it not in the numbers they should be in...this guy was getting ready for retirerment...and he wasn't all fired up about writing...he was more about informing...nice to see them out protecting out coast.... :smt004

Hey, don't be telling no one about Van Damme either.  Too bad about the heaving.  There's flatter days ahead!

i always think its funny when someone tells me "its a secret place and me and my buddies are the only ones who dive there" like they were the first to set foot in the water at a particular location. having worked at the local dive shop i heard this day in and day out and on the days i'd go diving up north , by god, i would see these folks diving at places like fort ross and surrounding areas.

yep, big secret, its only on the list of Ca. state parks. now only me, him and his buddies and the rest of California know of it..

 :smt005 :smt005

i dont think there are many secret places any longer, there is no magic voodoo spot and even if there is that still does not mean the fish will take the bait.

isnt fishing funny? people are funnier.

The tide was outgoing the vis was about 8-10.

They are red tinted I picked it up in hawaii when I was there.  Not real sure if the red tint makes much of a diffrence or not other than it is not as bright on sunny days.  I like the black skirt though the glare does not hurt as much and I think it is easer for my eyes to adjust when looking in holes.

There are no secret spots since google earth came out.  The only issue is getting to the spot you have picked out ;)

Sledge:

thanks for the report.  Sorry about the SS.

I don't dive really, tried it a couple times, I suck.  but I appreciate your attitude of "go for it" and also "share it."  Funny thread about secrets.  I like to share also.  Really, if a person wants to keep something a secret, I'd say just don't mention it at all.

I might get my head underwater again this year.  I know I have more than a few compadres from this board to guide me when and if I decide to "go for it."

thanks

Allen

I didn't give up the spots we worked finding...but i've noticed if u walk where others don't...guess what... :smt004 I looked at the whole area with google earth...it really shows a lot of detail....

I definatly am having backup dramamine...would've made things sooooo much better.... :smt044

I'ts my 3rd season diving and I'm just getting comfortable @ 10-15, still feel like a beginer...if you or anyone else would like to hook up in the area I was posting let me know...I can never get enough....

I got a prescription for scopalamine (spelling?) ear patches.  They work well and I don't suffer the side effects of Dramamine:  drowsiness and grumpiness.  Dramamine makes me bitchy.

Look at the positive side of things. As rough as the ocean was this weekend you all came out alive.
