Yo Ben,

This is proof that this isn't such a bad crab season after all.  WTG, looks like there's going to be a tasty dinner tonight!

Luckily I had the day off and my wife and I were able to meet up with Sharky and Guitarzan at Muir Beach. I paddled out first and tried to jig up some live bait, but there was none to be had, and after paddling outside of the protected bay it was NASTY out in the open water. So I headed back in and started bouncing a jig across the bottom. On my first drift I felt the "tappity-tap" of Mr. Butt and set the hook. Up comes a 26" halibut, my only catch of the day. This is the first 'but I've ever caught using artificial lures which made it all the more fun. Thanks to Sharky and Guitarzan for inviting us along!

I brought way too much crab gear, and stubbornly worked 6 pots and 3 hoops. Only fished for 20 min. limited on crab. only put in around 1 pm. Wanna get back and concentrate on Hali.
Did one of us say something about leaving a bamboo gaff at the beach? Found a nice one that was obviosly lost in some long grass. Just size limit. They looked a little rough. the wind lay down as I was leaving....

I had a great time.  Still no fish on my pink flamingo custom built fishing rod  :smt013, but I know my day will come.  Maybe at Paradise this Saturday  :fishing1.  I was glad to be near Fishin-Jay (my loving husband) for his catch and get some nice pictures.  I was pleased with my surf launches and landings today.  Good practice for rock fish.  Thanks again to Sharky and Guitarzan for the invitation.

Thanks for the "atta-boys" guys!  :smt006
I'll tell you though, I had Parrothead fishing right next to me on the same drift with the same lure but we weren't able to get her hooked up on a hali. As much as I'm glad I've been back into the halis this week, I really want to put her on some fish. I built her that rod about two years ago and she's never caught a fish with it, although she's just recently started consistently fishing. Maybe this weekend will finally be the day she catches her first ever halibut. She's only caught two fish from a yak so far, a crappie and a decent LMB, so her first hali should be quite the adventure for her!  :smt008
