Went up 88 to check out the streams over the weekend.  Many were high and even had snow on the banks.  We wanted to try places we haven't fished before.  Hit the Carson for a big -0-, then tried Tiger creek-0-, then Panther Creek for a surprising number of brookies and rainbows, all caught on dry flies.  Fished Kirkwood creek and sight casted to a couple of brookies, and also fished red creek below Red Lake and caught a couple there.  Red Lake is ice free as well as Caples and Silver.  We stopped at the Ranger station and they told us that Caples had been drained and the fish from there were moved to Silver and Red Lakes.  Anyone else hear of that?  Anyway, the fish were small, but it was a good place to be rather than in the valley with the heatwave!

Great post, and a timely one.  I am going up to Pioneer next weekend and was looking for a place to fish.  I take it Tiger Creek and Panther Creek are off Tiger Creek Road,  off 88.  I could not locate Red Creek or Kirkwood Cr.  Do you know if the North fork Mokelumne off 26 fishes well?  Feel free to e-mail me with comments.

thanks,
