Ok, since my time here at Hitachi is near it's end (Friday) I need some retail therapy!  I'm leaving a little early today to hit up FW to gather up the required tackle I'll need for the upcoming hali hunt at paradise park.  I know I'll be getting a few halibut rigs, some 4-6 oz weights (Torpedo or similar) I need some 20lb leader line as well.
What I'm unsure about, and will talk with the guys there about is what kind of plastics might I need to get? I've heard talk of leadheads?

How complete is this list?  How many of each would be normal to get?  Please add to my list if you don't see something I need.

Thanks

Troy,

I didn't know you were with Hitachi. I spent more than 15 years with them before they closed our division 6 years ago.

This event in your life will serve to give you new opportunities. I know it's tough to look at it positively, but I am an example of how it can be.

I got a great severance, hopefully you will get that also. I took 6 months off, bought a motorcycle, then started looking for  new job/career.

Took a job in tech again and hated it.... Quit that one...

Had an opportunity to move from sales to operations with a local tortilla chip company. This was a 6 month see if it works for them, see if it works for me assignment. Its been 6 years now, income is back to where it was 6 years ago, and absolutely love what I do. Yeah, we incurred a ton of debt because of lifestyle versus new lower income, but that happens.

Take some time off and fish.. Then when you're ready, get to the job/career hunt..

Rich

Fishin' is the best therapy.

In one of his reports, Insaneduane describes well what he uses, and he has been hauling them in.

Your company has better package than mine.  I was with Kla-Tencor for 9 years and they gave me only 6 months of health coverage which will be ended next month.  I'm looking for a new career every weekdays but weekends are my "relax" time.  The semiconductor industry is slowly recovering as major chip makers oversea like TSMC, UMC, etc... are recalling most of their laid-off employees.  Hang in there my friend and I know we'll get another job before the end of this year.

Stopped by FW and picked up a few items ( :smt007 Retail therapy!) I got 4 packages of the "Hayward Halibut rig" 2 hook and (Octpuss & treble stinger ) 2 packages of a different halibut rig manufacturer, 4 6oz torpedo's and 4 4oz ball, some SS swivels, and a "Konekiller" dodger (smaller one) guy that helped me also tossed in 11 yds of 25lb test Maxima to use for leader and tying it all up.
Next items will be the bait to use.  Maybe frozen tray anchovies? squid?  We talked about the "Hoochies" but, after the talk I still wasn't clear if they were the way to go so I left without them.

Still have a few weeks to figure this one out. (Bait)

Cool Troy, glad to see your getting excited for the HUNT!!!

We just did layoffs at my company, had to let two employees go and that was a big first for me as a manager.  :smt009 NOW im lucky to have a job, but doing the work of two jobs while we sort things out.  To top it off, our company founder  decided to leave today, after 11yrs and starting the company in a condo, feel like my dedication to work has just been crushed...   :smt011

For bait, and this being your first time out and a long ways away, I'd suggest some anchovies and squid.  This time, don't bring all of it with you!!!  Just make a baggie of 6-8 chovies, and 3 squid or something like that. Squid will stay on that hook all day if hooked right.  Keep the rest for your next outing! I bring less these days, but have learned that I wont be fishing all day most times and have my process down for trolling them so they seem to last a bit longer.

There was a thread not too long ago about artficials and halibut too, but didn't find it first pass.  You'll find it im sure!

If I have any live bait, I'll be happy to share with you Troy!  Others probably will too  :smt003

Ok, back to GMS packing!!!

Well the kitchen warden really doesn't like me keeping bait in the freezer,  :smt012 so what I get comes with me, and hopefully I'll be so busy that none will make it back!

if your in the bay, frozen chovies or herring. I got my first two last year draggin them.....no livebait butts for me last year.
at Paradise, there are pilings close by, where bait lives and can be caught on the sabiki rig.  I will try to get some live shinners at LochLomond (Fraisers) the morning of the hunt.
