Took Tanner out to the port this morning, his mom has to work, so I figured I better put him on some fish with that new rod.  We got there, and the water was like glass.  We went down to a place I call crappie row, and he catches three in no time.  I go back to shore, unload my gear, and have him paddle the yak alone for the first time.  He figured it out really fast, and was handling that 15' prowler well.  I told him to take the bucket of minnows, and his rod and come back with a limit.  Well, he tried, he caught three more by himself, and then was out of minnows.  He came and got a jumbo minnow, and I set him up to drift it, and wammo! He nails like a 20 pound striper!  His drag was way too loose I think, the fish peeled line off like a rocket, and after a few head shakes, was off.  But he got the rush.  Great day, and have some nice crappie for dinner tomorrow night, he wants to go to Cattlemens and have beef ribs.  That's my boy!

You know you've done right when they are outfishing you.  Been there, done that, still enjoying it.

Now that is a great report. I've always considered it a successful day when my boy out fishes me. Good job.

He consistantly out fishes the other kids, and I know it is his attitude.  He does not get bored, and he thinks about what he is doing, well, most of the time....

I tell you what, he is a buffed little turd.  He dragged the yak up the bank by himself too.  He will definately pull his weight when it comes to work.  The other boys, not so sure of. Today was also his first day of tying all his own knots.  Only one failed, and it was partly my fault, it was his first double overhand loop to hook to the swivel, He did not tie it right, and first crappie pulled it free.  But now he can tie a double overhand loop, cinch, and blood knot.

Very nice.

That first picture is great. One for Tanner to blow up and put on his wall.

Look at the wake behind the P15, too! He's got that thing movin'.

My seven year old son and 10 year old daughter are next.  They have all been out with me, but never alone, my daughter is ready I am sure when conditions are like what Tanner had, Cody, might have to wait a bit.
