This is my first run. After reading the post on the site, I went to Goodwill and got a good deal on the stainless butter knives.

Those will certainly catch fish...very cool! Are they heavy? I've thought about making lures from scrap metal but the drawback to me was always that they wouldn't be very heavy.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Nice looking lures.

Let us know when you start catching fish.

Yes, many of them are quite heavy, I would estimate in the 4-6oz. range or more. I used stainless steel bike spokes and wrapped them around the shaft of a large phillips driver and then cut them and welded them for the rings on the lures. I cut the ends off with a hack saw and then used a grinding wheel to smooth out the ends. Some of the knives I bought ended up being hardened steel and I could not drill through them, I guess there is no way to tell when buying them, but at 4 for a buck I'm not really sweating it. I will post the pictures soon. I picked up the reflective tape at Mel Cotton's and have also seen it on Cabella's site as well.

Nice jigs.  I'm sure you'll catch lots of fish with them  :smt007

Nice job bro. Nice looking lures. I can't wait to hear how much fish you'll
be catching with those homemade lures.

I was going to ask how you drilled the holes in the blade part of the knife until I read that you couldn't on some of them.
I had a beotch of a time with some and gave up on a few.
I got 30 knives for $1.50. Most are cut and drilled.
I am lazy and going to go with split rings. I just got the tape the other day and looking forward to getting creative.

There's going to be a huge shortage of used silverware at all of the CA thrift shops...lol.

Nice work.

Can't wait to see them Tote. Most of the knives were easy to drill with a small 1/4 or 5/16-I think? Anyhow I just used some good old fashion elbow grease and some cutting oil and drilled through them. Welding the rings and all that took the most time, but I've heard the split rings have a habit of snagging on the line. How's the shoulder doing are you going to be able to fish soon, if so we should start to plan a day to hook up-literally.

Try a little heat with the torch, then let it cool before drilling.
