Hey everyone,

I just found the forum and have really enjoyed the reading so far.  I'm just getting into kayaking and fishing simultaneosly.  I got a Dagger Magellan sit-in 16'6", and enjoy how it slices through the water.  It's not as stable as a sit on top, but I'm hoping it'll work.  I know next to nothing about fishing, but am hoping to catch a Mac this summer.  After spending all day on the water today with not a single bite, I'd be pretty pleased with a rainbow.  Any tips for Tahoe Trout gear and spots off the North Shore?  I put in at Coon Street in Kings Beach today and the paddling was quite nice.  Thanks,

Slim

welcome to the madness slim! Sit insides are alot more work to fish out of but it can be done. with out seeing the Yak its hard to to tell what you can get away with. If you look at my post "Tahoe 5/7" you can barely see how I installed pole holders on my 13 ft sit-in. i still want to mount a scotty on the front deck and make it a lot more fish friendly. I guess it's all about how much your willing to deal with while paddeling. I know little about north shore but doller pt. and sand harbor are good starting points. Trolling rapalas or jigging deep w/heavy spoons is most popular. The fishsniffer.com has some great info on this lake and many post from guys with 1000's of hours of experience. you know what they say "practice, practice, practice! Hope to see you on the water.

Welcome, slim3d.  Tahoe is a paradise where it doesn't even matter if you hookup a fish.  Good luck and be sure to post back with your fishing report.   :smt001

Welcome.

Every time I use a sit in, I always ask where I am going to put the fish without making a mess. :smt001

That is a nice yak you have.

Tahoe isn't the best lake to learn to kayak.  Just the other day found my yak had a leak and flipped in 40 degree water :smt009  As for catching your Mak it is harder to mak fish in the summer.  If you can make it to any Fishermans wahrhouse htp://www.fishermanswarehouse.com/  they will tell you everything you need to know about fishing.

Trout-Rapalas, Flasher worm/hoochie,
Maks-large lures DEEP! jiging works awsome too.  not many people know this but the makinaw fishing in Sly Park Resivoir is amazing and a whole lot easier then tahoe.  During the winter there is nobody on the lake.  Also the fish come within 5 feet of the surface.  Use ORANGE (thats only true for slypark)

if you can ever make it down we can hit up Lake Natoma, Great place to learn fishing.

Good Luck and congrats on picking up the best sport in the world,

Welcome, Slim.

True, Sit-ins are harder to fish with, but that sounds like a fun kayak to paddle.  :smt004
