Is anyone interested in doing the clamming thing again at Tomales bay? There is also a great tide for halibut fishing. They are catching halibut in the bay now. It should get better by the end of the month. These are the tides for that day.

6:30am  -1.5
1:00pm   3.9
6pm        2.4

As you can see there are some real gentle tides to offer a nice easy drift.Lawsons Landing is the place. Last time we all met in the big parking lot at the east end of the lot. There are some tables there and fire pits. If its cold I will bring some firewood to warm up by. I know Adams big party at Paradise is the previous day but hey its a  3 day weekend so you will have plenty of time to rest on Monday. It sounds like there is some interest. It was alot of fun last time and we all got real muddy. Clams are everywhere just ask Sandman. Halibut to boot possibly. I will bring my shrimp pump to get some ghosties and try drifting with those also. Bring an extra set of clothes. Kayaks are needed to get to the clam beds. So, if you are up for it give a shout.

On another note. Lawsons Landing is yet another spot thats being attacked by the enviros to shut it down. Show support for Lawsons by signing the petition at the gate when you pay the day use fee.

I've heard alot of mixed feelings from local around Tomales about the Lawsons landing enviro thing.  Some say its the trailer park their after.  That access would still be there.  My source is a fisherman.

That being said, i'm tentatively in.  I'd like to try and spear a hali near there.

They want to eliminate camping too.

JTF, I would be down for trying to spear a hali also. With those tides it would be real gentle. 2 people could work together . Ranger Jim shot a 19pounder there last year in 12 feet of water.

That is definately something to look into then.

There is alot of fillet on a 19lber!  I'm gonna get to work getting a new spear and bands for my 106 cm arbalete champion.   :smt002

I'd love to go but won't have my kayak yet  :smt013, I'm on my way to Ft Ross that day for the rest of the weekend for snails and some shore fishing. Does anyone know if they rent kayaks at Lawson?

Always wanted to get muddy for some clams... and it's a four day weekend for me, and I'm probably pre- maturely saying I'm IN, but what the hell count me IN!!!.  Please more details on what basic clam digging tools I may need...

Kayak , paddle(ask sonny about that one), shovel, piece of pvc pipe 20-24inches in diameter 2-3ft long, fishing license, bucket, change of clothes and all the other stuff you nornally bring when you play in the mud for 2-3hours. :smt003

I have everything, except the 20-24 in. Pvc Pipe! Is it critical that i have one to capture these clams...

I'll try to be in though the only clamming I've done is in Pismo Beach...which was many years ago.  What tools are needed and what is the limit on those clams?

Look above a couple of post . the limit is ten horsenecks or gaper clams Those are the ones tat we will be targeting. Do some research on how to clean gaper clams so you will know what you are in for. Read thru the whole post in fishing reports. I think someone posted how to clean them. The large diameter pipe is so that the sand wont collapse into the hole while you dig down to the clams.

craig i am tentatively in as well

plan to bring my wife with me on the tandem - we are both noobs to clamming so hopefully we wont slow you folks down too much.

what time should we be planning to meet at?  normally you would dig clams at low tide right? if low is at 630 how early will we need to get out for them?

how long is the paddle?  since it will be me and my wife i want to make sure it is not too long of a trudge since i might have to end up doing most of the work  :smt003

Its a real easy paddle. A mile at most.6am we should be heading over to the clam beds.Obviously you want to be digging at 6:30 or 7.Its a short carry or roll to the water.Find that Fish on our site really had the whole procedure well in hand. to get the big clams you really need the 24 inch diameter pvc pipe 2-3 ft long. Thats the ticket to getting down deep. Once you start putting the pipe in its also helpful to have a smaller digging device or a scooping device that will fit in the pipe. ben the learning curve is prety low and hey, those clams arent going anywhere. :smt006
