ARW 5/6

Met up with the flattie king Duane @ 6:30, Sharkie ( now I REALLY know where that name came from...wow) and Telani soon after, off the water @4...9.5 hrs for nada, 1 fish came unbuttoned after 10 seconds, lots of boats, multiple poachers out there, not even hiding it, one guy was gaffing 10 inch fish, I told them its illegal but they just pretended to not understand English, another boat had 2 poles for 2 people and they also both had hand lines out, WTF?? Arent there any wardens out there??? What a bunch of BS, if they fine people they can get much needed $, the powers that be seem only to want to ban fishing and not care about poachers, oh well so much for my venting. Poachers suck.

The poachers seem to scatter when I take their pic as I quote the rules.

I usually try to stay away from others when I'm out there, but getting pics of poaches sounds almost as fun as fishing.  Let the games begin!

Last time I was out at the rockwall there was a DFG boat out there checking boats and even checked me. The guys were really nice and one of them said he was a kayakfisherman but doesnt post on the boards but is a member. He said him and his partener are the only ones that patroll the bay. No funds for extra awesoem looking DFG rigid inflatable.

They told me the best thing to do is call Caltip with the CF# of the vessal, time, date, & what suspicious activity you witnessed.

Boy i really thought I was going to blank today but hook up on the hailmary drift a nice 28in not to fat but he will do so that's 6  days of halibut fishing and 8 halibut. wow what a year .

We will be at the wall this weekend on sat 5-09-09 come one come all and if anyone is interested in learning some
halibut skills I will be on hand. we will be launching at 630am Alameda rockwall.

Ive tried calling that #...I forgot it now, something like 1-800-poachers or something, it didnt work, recordings that ended up cutting me off.    As far as I can tell, poach away, no one is going to do anything about it.
Just dont do it when you have any pot on you, THEN you go straight to jail with the rest of the felons.

Nice job boys... yeah... the poaching thing has been going on in the East Bay for as long as I can remember. Most recently, I've seen those losers at the OAP when the dino bite was hot. Pretty sad... but they got the system down. Unless DF F'n G is there as it's going down... I'd say it's pretty impossible to nab them.

Volunteer poaching deputies?  One made dude (warden) and his crew? Poachers suck.

I missed a few oppertunities, but did finally manage to boat a 21.5" striper at the break in the wall, late in the day. I was confused about size limits and didnt really want to deal with it, so back it went. Quite a few fish were being caught in that area in the afternoon.

The caltip # is on your license.  If you can get a pic of the boat with the numbers, or the plate number off the car, they will investigate.  I call in people when I see illegal fishing, and it might help that I identify myself as a state officer, but they have always called me back to get more info and follow up with what they found.  The system is flawed, there are not enough wardens, they are spread way too thin.  They do rely on us for a lot of tips, that wind up prosecuted.  One problem is the judicia system.  Not mentioning any nationalities, but if you go into court, in dirty clothes looking like a bum, stink to high hell, and tell the judge you need to feed your family, there will be a reced penalty, ort will get dismissed n grounds of financial hardship.  Been there, seen it too many times.

Congrats to #8 Duane. I am 1 for 5 trips on the halibut myself. Perhaps I'll take
