Couldnt find anyone to make it out with me on Sunday. So went solo got into Cambria late due to worked till 7 that morning but was on the water by 11... Talked to about 10 guys that where coming in they said the Fog had just gotted to think but by the time I launched it was lifting again. So I paddled out around the point and to the North. Droped down and was feeling like it was gonna be slow as everyone coming in didnt have much. 1st drop on the edge of the kelp brought one verm up nothing else there so I moved on. NO wind or nothing so I fished my way up the coast to the seals playing on some rocks. Fished that area in some deep kelp like 60ft and brought up one more rockfish thought this is gonna be good I could feel the bite so droped back down and WACK it the rock on the bottom and off to the races I got this 24 1/4 inch Ling. But was unsure I hate keeping fish so close to the line that if my measurement was off could Cost me alot... So I tossed the dude back... and kept fishing. Could not get anouther bite. So called it a day around 330 as the fog had dropped back down giving be about 20ft of visabliity and when alone it really sucks... So snail trailed my way home with my GPS thank you GPS...

Im either gonna head out again in a few minutes or just drive to the beach and check it out tring to get a hold of grady to join  other wise im gonna head out tomorrow... I will post again...

Been there, done that.

Was telling my mom one time about how the fog just rolls in on us so thick sometimes that there's no way to tell where the shore is. She bought me a GPS a few weeks later for Christmas...lol.

Some technology is great. Too bad the fishing was kinda slow for ya.

Those are some quality rockies man. Seems like the fog was thick from Monterey to Cambria all wknd. I've had to navigate home w/a GPS and it isn't always easy....especially when you're feelin queezy and paddling south, looking at a GPS map that is oriented to the north....

I learned a long time ago, in jungles, to trust your electronics, and not your instincts.  I can not tell you how many times we were heading to our extracts, and felt like we were going the wrong way.  Even our topos looked off, but the gps was spot on.  Same thing hunting in Montana in a blizzard, I ended up three ridges over before I pulled out the gps, I was one whooped pup when I got back to the truck, and it was on our own ranch, so I knew the area, just could not see, and trusted my gut on my bearings.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

A compass is more important to me than a GPS, but I'm glad to have both.  Be careful out there, RHYak.   :smt001

Had a compass too and was using both but the GPS comes in handy too know which cove to go into and not pop into everyone. But used the compass to to get heading the right direction. Im itcing to get out right now.

Nice Rockies. I should get myself a GPS and compass, I am always heading out by myself when all of a sudden the fog wants to roll in. Thanks for the report.
