WTHookThatHogg :smt007 and WTBust out the Ol' Stretch&Flex :smt011

DFG measures a fish from the upper lip to the furthest tail-tip...we should at least try harder to gets its mouth closed(hence the "L" in the HawgTrough :smt003....JMHO

Ca DFG says that the fish should be in natural repose and measured from the furthesr anterior position of the head to the longest tip of the tail fin. Can a moderator clarify this for me with an ideal picture of what it looks like. A moderator only please.

you answered it already.....it's mouth only opens when it's eating or getting hung on a clip/stringer......the furthest anterior position is it's upper-lip.

Not with all fish. The lower lip protrudes further forward in some specie.

all fish will measure out more when the mouth is open....hence the HAWG TROUGH!!........it's been done before and that's why a measuring device was issued to AOTY participants.
Have you ever been checked by a DFG field guy...the one with the Real_HawgTrough?  he puts the fish on it and SLIDES it down to the corner at ZERO(where the head should be) I've NEVER seen him open it's mouth and add the xtra inches.....or when a DFG person measures your striper, do they OPEN its mouth? = NO they don't, it's mouth is ALWAYS closed.   :smt002

Jonesz, I want you to know that I am trying to find out the correct way to measure for me and no one else. I called the DFG at yountville and here is what they said. The fish should be laying flat with the mouth closed. Starting at the most forward part of the fish(lowerlip ,upper lip, it doesnt matter. its the point most forward) to the longest part of the tail fin(upper or lower). Sorry about all this bs Jonesz.

Craig, your last post is what I've always believed it to be. As it lays natural end to end. Pretty simple. As for the mouth, most live fish don't open their mouths anyways. I guess they figured they just opened it up once too many already  :smt005 Personally, I'm only in it for the fun. Pretty sure that's why I go out and punish myself so many times, bake in the sun, sit in the pouring rain, drag my yak up cliffs, get up before the crack of dawn, hoist my yak up and down off the roof, pack a ton of sh*t only to put it all away agian, take sh*t from my buddies...yeah that's it, I do it for the fun of it.... :smt002  :smt005 it's all good.

Nice fish and photos Glyn!
You put it well when you describe all we do to get points. Yeah, it's no big deal.
How early you getting up, and how far are you driving next time? :smt044
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.
