In preparation for an upcoming fishing trip I was wondering what you folks recommend for transporting rods? Im taking three, maybe four 7' casting rods with me.

Question two. If one wanted to take say ~10 rods what would the options be?

Am I stuck with the big bazooka carriers or are there other options?

Muchos Gracias

I make my rod tubes out of black ABS tubing.  Can use ABS solid caps or put a threaded cap on one end or use the black rubber plumbers test caps for the end.  ABS is lighter than PVC and holds up well.

You can also get these caps for 3" ABS to make a proper rod tube with padded ends and a nice flip open top on one side.  This is usually how I ship my customers rods.

If you stuff your rods into a tube, I'd recommend each rod be in a sock or afford some other way of cushioning the rods against eachother (great way to pack your beach towels perhaps).

For el-cheapo you can use the white Polyethylene double wall drainage pipe and the caps that are made for them.  These are much less expensive than ABS and plenty rigid / durable.

I once had a link for a product that was kind of like a huge wallet that you could strap multiple rods into with the reels and fold it in half, zip it up, and carry it.  Kind of like a soft case for rods with reels.  I can not find that link anymore but I know such things exist.

I went to Cancun a few years back and used the Bazooka it worked fine. Four 7 foot rods and put the reels in my suitcase. I did put each rod in individual 6mil plastic wrappers so they would not slide or bump around being the rods were graphite.

Probably not useful but I use this in my car when transporting rods.

More importantly, where are you heading? :smt044

Dustin the bazookas are ok but the abs or pvc are best if flying btdt, airlines are rough on gear.
The soft cases that fold work good if you are driving. But you should have rod socks to keep them from rubbing on each other.
Bluewater makes a 8 rod soft bag, but I've put 12 rods in w/socks on. OPS is a Bluewater dealer.

I heard just the opposite, That PVC will break, My Bazooka was a life saver, with the wheels, I was able to move around very easily..

One thing though, don't leave it standing on one end,  While outside the Mexican Airport, this guys would not leave me alone about getting me deals on things to do, I turned around to get something and  " Crash!!!! "... Thing came down on his head..... :smt044

He stoppered off Yelling something at me in Spanish that I'm sure was not very Flattering....

I've had pvc break when mailing rods on more than one occasion.  ABS has always held up to the gorillas that handle packages and baggage for me.  The white double walled drain tube is made of polyethylene... cheap, durable, very light weight, and recyclable.

I have the regular sized Bazooka and it has BTDT and never flinched.  I was cautioned when I got it to get the bigger one with wheels and passed...turned out to be good advice...I wish it was bigger and when your hands are FULL at customs the wheels would have been nice.
