After donating my last vhf to Neptune, I needed another. My criteria were simple. Cheap, effective and waterproof (JIS7 or better). After much searching I found a good deal at boatersworld.com. the Standard Horizon HX600s-Li at $62 (+shipping at around $10). This unit originally retailed at $ 200+. I ordered it and it came in less than a week.
Its tiny compared to my old Icom "brick". Has am & fm radio reception, a jack for a speaker/mic and a bunch of other bells and whistles my old one didnt have. The only thing it didnt come standard with was a battery cradle for aa batteries (it does come with a Li battery pack, wall and car charger), but they are available. Seems to have good reception.Dont get too excited about the strobe feature, as its just a tiny LED. I believe that a lanyard to a small piece of pool noodle would float it, but its so small that it can stay on your PFD the whole time while on the water (where it should be!), without getting in the way.

Yes, thanks Sharky! I have been eyeing this specific model as I begin to gear up, and $70 door-to-door is a fair bit cheaper than I've been able to find it anywhere else...

That "Super bright LED" strobe may not look bright to your eyes, but to night vision, It'll be a blinding beacon of light!  As long as it can be seen for 360*

Good score, sounds like others are cashing in on it!

I just ordered one directly from Boaters World and it was $69.95 OTD. Great buddy radio at that price.

Thanks again for passing along this great deal, Sharky.
