Being home sick for the last few days has been giving me the stir crazies.

So I set out to keep myself entertained in as may ways as I could.

I sorted tackle, did hook upgrades and tied shrimp flies, etc, etc, blah, blah blah...

But I needed something a bit more *fun* to work on while I'm sitting at home on the first day of RF season  :smt012.

I'd meant to get my Superman Rod rigged up for some sort of bait fishing or something, but hadn't gotten around to it.  Seeing as how I had plenty of time on my hands, figured I'd see what I could do with this puppy.

I began by trying to see if I could separate the rod from the base.  It all looked glued together so I thought, "Hey, why not use a blow torch to loosen that up?" and see if I could get it to pull out.

BUT that didn't seem to work, just started melting the poor rod...  SO time to just hack that thing off!

Then I went and drilled out the center, so I could fit a new rod inside!

Then I hacked off part of a trout rod that I broke earlier this year, and it fit amazingly well inside the hole I cored out for it!

Finished sanding up the end of the ol' Super Pole...

Next, I ran down to OSH and got some spray paint.  Gave it a good coat of primer, then finished up with a textured black.

When finally dried, I fit the pieces back together, super glued the rod into the handle and it looked great!

Spooled it up with 8# braid, and got out a shrimp fly to use with it tomorrow!

That is so awesome.

We should have two classes.

Toy Pole Stock and Toy Pole Modified. Maybe start of 2010 we can have TPOTY to see who can catch the biggest fish in each class. I am so in on this. Going to go pick up a pole this week! And I am going to go chase stripers with it!
