This weekend, I headed to the S. Delta with the Davis Crew (formerly known as the Bodega Crew).  NSeine, Uminichu , Ash, and I fished Sunday eve and Monday morn.

We found the runts...catching around 15 short stripers & LMB.  Naoaki scored both a keeper striper and largemouth...nightfishing provided a few morsels of the feline persuasion...

Wind was howling w/gusts at 18 knotts...we were hiding behind the tules and tossing minnows mostly...several fish were caught on bass assassins too...great fun to have a fish erupt on the surface.  Looked like fish were pushing bait further out (birds diving), but we could never get there in time...

Again, we worked hard for every fish...I hear the bigger stripers might be up river?

The pix below due the wind no justice...

OUR OVERNIGHT SALVATION (evening wind was bitter cold)

Solid work guys... I always wondered how that place would be at night. It's kinda out there...

Enjoyed your report.  It brought back many memories, some good, some bad.

Are they still growing asparagus there?

Sad to see that there are only pilings where a structure used to be.  I would cool off under its shade during those hot delta days.

Used to have a great catfish hole within 50 yards of that rockpile.  On one of those stormy spring days, the big cats there went berserk.  I had to move down to the bridge to save my bait for stripers.

It was kind of dangerous in that channel when the power boats start to show up.   I have seen some nasty boating accidents in the water and some gang related activites on land.

The powerboats are still dangerous mid summer here. The cigarette boats do well over the safe speed limit through there. And they usually run in packs of three or more. It's still a great place, just have to be alert. One of my favorite places to fish and just relax.

Yeah.  Those cig boats are a big pain, especially when they have a few bikini clad hotties they want to impress.

The fishing was very tough due to the strong wind, but the fish were there...  I just couldn't put the plastics long enough to LMB to take it.   I got the fish during very short windows of low wind, but when it was blowing I couldn't even troll right (I still got fish tho).

At night it was a little creepy but I've done night fishing there a bunch of times and never got bothered, so we decided to stay there and fish all night.

Lots & lots of small stripers (8-17 inch).  As Levi said maybe the big ones went up to the river...

Glad my spot is producing.  :smt003, Nice going guys! Wish I knew you were headed out there, would have loved to join you!

sorry Jeff, it was last min thing & still wasn't sure we're gonna go there after we left the house due to the weather.  Next time, I'll let you know!

It can be nice and peaceful there, but sometimes it can change w/o notice.

Being in the Delta is an adventure in itself.

On this same levee, I have chased off some guys that were breaking into the car next to mine, seen several burning cars, told where they had just discovered a body (yards from where I was fishing), told about other bodies found around there at various times by law enforcement, had guys impersonating game wardens and acting very hostile and physical, weird screams in the middle of the night and on and on.  I will save the boating stories for next time.  Too many stories, and that is just on this one levee.

Nice to know about all those small stripers.  It speaks well of the fishery.

That is also a great place to spend the 4th of July.  Fish while the fireworks go all around you.
