So, our sony DCR-HD36 broke, I guess.  keep getting a "reinsert cassette" error message.

Online advice, believe it or not, is to whack the thing a few times.  Seems to work for lots of people, but nor for me. I even used the rubber mallet on it. no dice.

My daughter has a class project she needs to edit this weekend, and we can't get the thing to work past the error to upload.

I bought a new Sony today with the casette, but I realize I am probably looking at a similar problem with this down the line, should probably get a hard drive camera and not have to worry about cassettes anymore.

So, here is the request/favor:  Does anyone have a cassette video camera I could borrowsometime this weekend to upload these last videos we have on the cassetes?  I can then take the new one I bought back to Best Buy without opening the package, which incurs a 15% "re-stocking" fee.

Don't know if the cassettes vary, but this one is a tdk mini DV 60, also has dvm60 printed on it.

I will be at Mt View tomorrow for the REI paddlefest demo day at Shoreline Lake, Mountain View, so I could meet someone there, or drop by any where in that vicinity or San Jose with my laptop and cassetes and upload on the spot.

To sweeten the deal, I can bring a six pack for you haha, name the brand.

Also, I gues i need advice on whatever new video I will eventually get.  the little jvc's looked good, with a hard drive, anyone have experience with those?  I'm looking to spend around 300, and it will be a family camera.

thanks for any help or advice.

Allen

Allen some camera shops will burn a DVD for you
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
