 Hello
In my few years of kayak fishing I have yet to see anybody with a way to preserve their catch while on the water. I see pictures of guys on multi hour trips out of big sur with the nuclear sun blazing on their catch in the tankwell. Isn't there an ice chest that will fit in the rear of a yak? The rockfish that is the best tasting is the one that isn't decomposing, ick been there done that. Most of my fishing history is cattle boat fishing in socal. I remember a trip in which I caught two nice 25# yellowtail, one in the am and the other the last hour of the trip. The fish are typically kept in wet potatoe sacks on one day boats and when the deckhand was filleting my fish the one from the morning had turned to fishpudding and was thrown over the side. Who has solved this issue? Wet sack will lower the temp by 10 degrees but in 80 degree heat not that helpful.

 Wow
Why have I not seen anyone using these, they look perfect. Lighter than a plastic cooler with ice and foldable. Now I can keep my fish cool with some 12 ounce buddies too!
Would be nice if they were leakproof to solve the other problem of being a traveling chum slick. About the best thing about my old sitinside yak is I would put the fish inside the cockpit between my legs in a sack. Kinda made me nervous when I noticed last year how many guys were unwittingly chumming near me at a infamous red triangle hot spot.

This is somewhat off topic, but the chumming comments caused an old question in my newbie mind to resurface.

I keep reading that you should bleed fish out as soon as possible, specifically (leopard) shark and salmon -- I don't know about other species. Wouldn't that turn you into something of a big tupperware shark lure?

I have been using them for ages.  They work well, but are not perfect.  The sides are not insulated and if they were they would be sweet.  I saw a different brand at OEX last fall, and I will be upgrading eventually.

I actually have some thermal blanket (basically bubble wrap with silver coating on both side) I am gonna make up a fish bag and see if it works. I don't think it will be super durable (no dragging over rocks) but we'll see. I'll post picks when completed.

One the locals use here in Seattle and one I've had the pleasure of using is the Silver Horde KatchKooler. It's not rocket science by any means but cheap ($20) is made well, and does a great job. Probably won't hold a full RCG limit but at the price you could easily buy two for way cheaper than the kayak versions. Just make sure to give it a good rinse after using it in saltwater. 16" X 36"

I've had my eye on this guy for some while but haven't pulled the trigger, partly because it costs $109.99.  Anybody have any experience with it that they want to share?

Boy Dillbeck, by the size of that cooler I can see you are a thirsty angler.

Try the Pelaj Fij fish fridge. Well insulated bags in various sizes, has a drain valve and the "Salmon" bag has shoulder and rod straps. Ice is said to last two days outdoors in the sun of Queensland, Australia.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Nice but for $140 the fish better come out cleaned and ready for the grill!

Nope...but thats more wind profile than I would want from a fish bag.
