Yikes, was he even wearing a PFD?  This is a CLASSIC that anyone should watch before trying a surf launch!!  I wouldn't have even tried it at that spot, seeing how fast the waves built up to like 4ft???

I do mention at the end of the video that he was not wearing a PFD, which likely would of saved his ribs.

Oh, is it usually like that for the entire launch?  I know it's closed for the moment, but man I don't think I could make it through that surf!  Guess its time to take a class  :smt004

Limekiln is a dumping shore break with many cobbles and rocks.Once (or if) you make it past the shore pound it isn't that bad.The conditions in which dude is launching aren't ideal, but are very doable. He needed to...
1.Wear a PFD
2.Time the sets and launch during the lull
3.Wade out a bit deeper
4.Get on his yak QUICKLY
5.Paddle like a bat out of hell through the impact zone and out of harm's way

i'm a little new to surf launches - that looks gnarly enough to keep me land locked.  i had fun practicing my surf launch at new brighton last week though.

I recognize that place. Even on a deceptively easy day, it claims its victims. :smt001

Wow!  That kid looks like a young, pre-BLOTY Sean White!   :smt005

JK, Chris - I know you're a young man and not a kid.   :smt001

If you saw Chris now you'd hardly reconize him.  Pushing 5-10 and working out everyday...yikes.

Still one of my favorite photos of all time, thanks for posting it PAL.  Despite the reason for our trip, that was a good time and we need to do that again.
