If this is posted in the wrong section - Blame Brian G, he told me to post it here :smt044

Two weeks ago, I had decided (firmly) to purchase my very first kayak!  After much research  :busy , and overanalyzation, I settled on a Cobra Escape.  The problem?  Locating it.
Half Moon Bay Kayak had 2 left in stock, and Brian G suggested we head out that way.  However, my version of “head out that way” and his version, are very different.  :smt009

My version?  Drive straight there.

His version?  Involved the following

Getting Gas (at the pump… but probably later at In n Out Burger ;) )

In N Out Burger

Carnage

Practicing our Tsunami Safety (notice whitch way the sign points for safety?)   :surf

And of course, a little pole dancing?   :smt079

Did I mention the trusty GPS wasn’t so trusty.

These shenanigans had us pulling into the parking lot as we saw a nice stone colored Cobra Escape pulling away – we thought “Nice Kayak”… only to pull in and hear someone say “YOU JUST MISSED HIM ABOUT 5 MINUTES AGO”…. No doubt that was probably him.   :smt089

I was, of course, heartbroken and frustrated.  We got back, and decided to order it online from UP Sports down in Dana Point – LA Area.  Ordered it with the hatches, and it came with seat and paddle.  Now all I had to do was wait.

And alas, Friday night I finally got to see it.  :smt007

However, much to my surprise….. Cobra is now shipping their yaks with a new treat in the center round hatch:  :smt049

And I, of course, did what any other female would do, and went shopping.

For what?  EVERYTHING.

First things first we installed some flush mount rod holders:

And then the base for the Scotty Triple Mount…. (close your mouth)  :smt107

That being said, the basic rigging is done – have my radio on order along with other necessities.  There are a couple more things I want to do with bungee, anchor, etc…. so it’s still a work in progress, but nevertheless, rigged for my pleasure!  :smt044 We dropped it in his parent’s pool, which is conveniently located next door, and being that I’m used to paddling his Maurauder, it was a little tippy, as to be expected.  I managed to stay atop and adapt pretty well …. While Brian, couldn’t stay upright   :smt005

That being said, I love it, can't WAIT to take her out on the water and catch some big 'ol fishies!  :fishing1 :fishing2

In a shameless plug, there are 3 kittens we found, about 5-6 weeks available.  We REALLY don’t want to take them to the pound.  So if you want one, let Brian or I know.

Michelle was way excited about her new yak. She was quite the slave driver when it came time for rigging. We will be out this weekend to slay some delta stripers and bass.

The cobra escape is a nicely laid out little boat.  We heavier guys better leave this cute boat to the cute ladies. Being at its rated weight limit made the yak quite tippy with no secondary stability. We tried to buy as local as possible but Michelle was not happy with HMB closing 3 hours early after we called them to make sure they would be open. UP Sports had excellent service and free shipping. They also offered the best price to be found.

Woohoo! That's a beauty - looks like it was worth the wait.  :smt001
And it came with its own sea kittens!  :fish: :cat: Cute. The pic with the kitties in the hatch is sickeningly cute!

I'll show those pics around - I'm pretty sure you can find some good homes for them w/out taking 'em to a shelter. BTW, there are 4 kittens in one pic but you said 3 - are you keeping one?

There are 4, but Michelle has a friend that will be adopting one. The mother cat will be adopted by me as a ranch cat, aptly named "Cobra".

HMB is apparently not hurting for business.  :smt044

I like cats, but I've become allergic to them.

This is NOT a fishing report!  But it sure was fun to read.   :smt002  Now go fishing and serve up this kind of quality with some slime and scales!   :smt001

Congrats on the new yak!  I liked the post too, especially (in no particular order):

1. The pole dancing pic (who doesn't like a little pole dancing to start off their morning?)

2. The sea kitten photo (pisciform beat me to the tag though!)

3. The pics of a shiny new kayak!

Just in time for rock fishing too!  :smt004

First things first.

This boat isn't "cute" nor is it limited to "cute ladies".  Sure if you paddle the maurauder and big yaks, this will be tippy.  But it's no different than someone paddling the Mini X.  The Cobra is longer and 2 inches skinnier, but size wise, pretty comparable.  If you don't have the patience to paddle and get your bearings on a "cute" boat *shrug*  So let it be known that I didn't get this boat because it's "CUTE".  I got it because as a beginner, I can load solo, and handle it on my own for the most part.

Secondly.... the tri mount will have the FF, radio, and rod holder, plus two flush in the back.... ordered an albackore tackle bag, some bungee and other "toys"... Not sure they will all be here by this weekend but I'm HOPING!  once everything is completely set I'll post more pictures.... including my bin of kayak gear with bungee strung on the top to attach the paddles too.   :smt001

More pictures to come!

It's a good thing my daughter didn't see those kittens.  There is already 3 cats (9yrs to 6months) at my house, along with my 11yr old dog. NICE YAK!

I know what you mean - I have two cats and a puppy.  I'd LOVE another kitten, but really don't need another animal  :smt010
