What's been up with the site the last couple of days; on every visit I get bombarded with tracking cookies. Just now my security software nabbed a trojan. All of it seems to be coming from the ad bars.............?

What security software are you using? I am not seeing anything.

Trend Micro PCillin. The trojan only popped up once. The cookie attack happened a few times but it seems to have settled down. Either that or I blocked them all  :smt027

Which tracking cookie did you see? Not all of them are bad. For instance, Doubleclick.com tracks your surfing habits and, each time you visit a website, it determines which banner ads to display once you reach the website. So it places a cookie on your computer. You can opt out of being tracked, but Doubleclick will still place a cookie on your computer that contains settings to ID you as not wanting to be tracked by them. There are three or four other outfits that do the same.

Also, not all banner ads involve tracking cookies, as evidenced by the NCKA site.

we use forefront security, and it sometimes takes 2-3 minutes to load a page while the security scrubs it

It hasn't happened yet today, but several times on Wednesday my download window opened and asked if I wanted to save or run a file called "160600.swf". Of course I clicked cancel each time, but there was definitely something on the site trying to load itself onto my computer.

I Googled that 160600.swf and it came back as a Shockwave Flash banner ad for The Nature Conservancy.Shockwave Flash items don't harbor viruses "usually", they are those moving ads that slow down your computer by swallowing up processor usage.

If I could recommend, switch to using Firefox as a browser instead of Internet Exploder. It runs faster and less prone to malware and virus crap. Google Chrome is fast but unprotected. Not recommended for use yet.

If you insist on using IE and are having problems, go empty your temporary internet files for starters. get a good slow anti-virus program, and backup to an external harddrive for the inevitable day.

Thanks for checking on that! Also, I am using Firefox when these downloads are occurring.   :smt044 :smt009
