Okay, I wasn't going to post.  It is anticlimactic, but a fishing report is a fishing report after all.

Went out on Saturday still on cloud 9 (or cloud 10 in this case) and thoughts of even bigger bass to chase to fish with XSquid.  I hooked up a nice 3 pounder right off and hopes still high of a great day.  A hour or so later, XSquid hooks a nice 5.5 pounder that looked bigger for sure (pic 1).  Then the bite got tough.  The wind didn't help either.  X got a couple fish on the senko and one on the swimbait.  I got another small fish on the worm.  And that was it for Saturday.  Tough bite, not sure why, but I couldn't get it going.  It was a fun day fishing with you again X, stay after them, you day is due too.

Sunday: what happened???  I got one fish all daaaay looooong.  Early too, around 7:45, so, that made the day seem even longer.  At least it was a nice 6.5 pound brute (pic 2) that pounded my swimbait over some think weeds at high tide.

Monday:  There they are!  The bite was back.  It fits into my theory that the bass have been trained/conditioned not to bite on the weekends  :smt002.  I changed tactics slightly and fished levee/rock walls with a senko at high tide.  Got a lot of fish in the 1.5 to 2 pound range, and a 4.25 pounder, and a 5.5 pounder (pic 3).  The fish were stacked as I continued fishing that pattern.  At one point I had three fish in a row.  I also got a few on the Texas-rigged worm (tough not to throw it after last week).  I also missed several quick bites--hard pops, and swinging on nothing.  Usually means the fish are protecting a bed and not really feeding.  Ended up with 15 bass, most on the senko over a two hour period at the top of the outgoing.

Time is now if you want to get out there for the bass.  Try to practice catch & release as much as possible during the spawn please.  As our fishing resources are declining, we need to preserve the ones that are strong and healthy.  Also you never know when you may catch the fish of a lifetime...TWICE  :smt003!

Have a great week.

I chose the delta over Berryessa based on your reports Saturday and got my ass kicked also! These next 2 days of wind will put them down again. Should be KILLER next week.

HB....let us know when you are up for another Bass-Yak-A-Thon. I could use some more lessons and its way more fun to fish with others.

Sure thing.  How about a top-water adventure??  Nothing like a big bass blowing-up a popper to get the heart pumping!  Will post in hook-ups for maybe early June.

Dude!  You're not kidding.  You've got the pro hold down, Bryan.  Flare some deep red gill, angle the flank for maximum shine and show....  Nice work, again~   :smt001

Well now that your vacation is over, maybe the bass can start their vacation.... :smt002 A memorable week for you I'm sure. Did you try different areas, or keep hitting the same water?

HobieBlue

This is my theory on the bite during Saturday and Sunday. The barometer had been rising all day on Saturday and most of Sunday. If you had stayed fishing till late Sunday the bite might have picked up.

I had a similar experience on Saturday. However I was able to entice them to bite with a smaller bait. Using a 3" senko clone allowed me to get 11 fish that day. The bite was a little more aggressive early morning and late afternoon but still preferred the 3" clone to the bigger bait.

You got it done on your break.  It's going to be tough to beat a week like that.  Too bad it shut off when we hit it, still a good time though.  Hopefully this wind won't stick around too long, it looks brutal out there.

Thanks for the info Compa.  I mentioned to X that the pressure had turned the bite off.

jonesz--I generally fished the same area, but covered over 12 miles of water over the whole week.  I try to explore a few "new" spots each trip I make to the Delta.
