My wife informed me we are going on our summer vacation to Cancun... I guess she thinks hot weather in the summer is a good thing... June 27 through July 4 is the trip date. We will be staying at a timeshare we traded our points for. sleeps 8 for $169 total for the week plus trading our points, not a bad deal for a condo.

Anyway

Does anybody have any experience with kayak fishing in the area, are there rentals or guides available? Also what kind of fish can you go after on a yak?

I may opt for just party boat fishing because I can't outrun the drug cartels on a kayak...

Any information?
thanks in advance

Stoggie

I rode my bike along the coast there, the hotel "Zona" where you probably are going, is pretty dense with tourist and hotels and probably double since I was there...

One thing you might try, is bring a trail rod, back pack rod that will break down along with some kastmasters and such,  green/pink/red, tropical colors, and pick up a kayak that will most likely be everywhere along the beach...  lots of Barracuda checking out the tourist in the water, needle fish, pain, but good fights..

and yellow striped perch type fish, other reef fish etc...

another trick is to bring some bait hooks and weights etc...
and if ya find your self around some rocks, smash a few snails and bait em up... fish on!!!

there is also a lagoon on the inside of the pennisula... don't know what is in there other than crocodiles...

being ya got such  good deal on the room, maybe rent a car and travel down the coast, or  rent a taxi for the day, they will drive ya down the coast, beers in the taxi, tell them what your looking for,

might be the deal of the century,  I got a guy to drive us from Pammul, (15k south of playa del Carmen)

Down to Tulum, did some freed diving in a cenote, had a nice lunch at " Casa Cenote " basically had him most of the day for $50... tipped accordingly...

There is a spot at the point on the bay ( calm ) side that has rentals. Troll between there and Isla Mujeres for barracuda. Keep it on top and go fast.
If you decide not to go the kayak route find a panga, not a party boat, unless you plan on shelling out some mucho dineros.
If you are not picky about what you want to catch bring along some frozen peas and a crappie jig.
The fish come out from everywhere if you dump the peas overboard near a reef. Follow with the jig and you will surely hook up.

Thanks for the info.

Summer or not it is hard to pass up a week in cancun for 8 people for less than 200 dollars.

It works out to about 5 dollars per person per night.
That leaves a lot of dineros for touristy stuff be fishing.

I like the panga option, much more personal and fun.
