I modify wire seals to make them work with the Humminbird cables but still fit inside the base.

My favorite tool for making mounting holes is a Forstner Bit. Used at slow speed. My source was Harbor Freight item # 39811. 16 bit sizes from 1/4" to 2 1/8". Holes made will be clean and round. dave...

A unibit also works well.

sean can you give more details on which wire seals you use and how you modify them to fit the mounting base proper?

Stand this thing on its head and the bottom of the rod pod floor acts as a guide for a perfectly staight cut and uniform reveal.  The plunge depth will get the inner wall, but not the outer wall...just pay attention in the corners.  It does an incredible job.

Im gonna pick up this tool and give it a shot, gonna install the pod hatch tonight... WISH ME LUCK, and more tips on using this tool?

i just bought the tool, $31 fricken bucks!!!

yeah, i have no choice but to do it! i mounted a rod holder in the tray (where the rod pod cover will go) and the whole thing just ripped out, now i have a big hole there, but with NO cover... I was forced to buy the cover!!!!

i know some people dont like the rodpod hatch, but does everyone hate it?

Im looking at it like this...

1) if its crazy enough on the water where im taking waves onboard (into the hatch), im getting off the water!

2. If i was a mile or more out, and i had a small leak and had taken on a lot of water, how would i ever pump it out, the only access to the hull is on the very nose of the boat with out the rod pod hatch, its a sketchy climb out there in rough water.

3. I can actually stow my rods away if needed, as of now, I can not.

so, is the pod infact a bad idea?? I sure hope not cause i have no other choice!!!!

Mine has never leaked and I have taken many waves over the hatch (they hit me in the chest). I think the rod pod is one of the best things about the T13. I really only store the battery to my FF and a hardly used dry bag in the front hatch area. That sucks that the area ripped out. How did it happen? There are few ppl/places that repair (plastic weld) and may be able to fix the hole.

that wire seal is the main reason i hired sean to do the install on my non-angler t-15, love the rod pod;
it hold beer, sandwiches and my gear
i also put float bags in the bow and stern

hmmm? is that to line the sliding tray? I assume it has one of those as well? I added some non slip matting to the bottom of the tray so stuff doesn't slide around. Also make sure you add a rivet to the front rim of the cut out area then you can drill a hole so the tray doesn't slide down all the time. I can send you a pic if it doesn't make sense.
