I have my transducer gooped in but it isn't pointing perfectly straight down.  It is tilted to one side at a slight angle.  How much of an effect will this have on the ff readings?

Travis,
Best way is to paddle next to someone else with a FF and compare depth results.  Hopefully you both have the same reading.

When doing this, its normal to get interference from the other person's signal, so you're screen may look strange.

It doesn't make that much difference. Theoretically to get perfect fish arches it needs to be pointed straight down. But I find that the cheapie fishfinders don't really show arches anyway.

Most of the fishing where I've had success because of a fish finder, had more to do with finding bait fish and knowing the depth. Knowing the depth is nice when you are in shallow rocky water because you can reel up before you drag over an under water cliff or something. But you don't need to know the actual depth so much as how the bottom rises and falls.

I've only seen a few true arches in all my days of fishing with high to low end units.

Conditions really have to be perfect for you to see arches.  Now I mark tons of fish, just not traditional arches.

If the angle is less than 5 degrees don't sweat it.

My trandsducer is actually mounted on a stiff wire that I dangle over the side of my yak and I have similar performance to past gooped transducers (actually better as I'm not shooting through goop and plastic).

I was more worried about the depth readings being accurate.  I will let you guys look at it this weekend and see what you think.  I also can paddle next to someone else this weekend and compare depth readings.  Thanks for the input.

Don't paddle closed to me with your crooked transducer, I still want to have more kids!  :smt112
