I want to do an ultimate kayak experience this summer that would involve an extreme physical effort to get to the launch and an even worse workout to get back to the vehicles. I did this once 8 years ago and I was tired for 2 days after ( although I am older now). At the north end of Salt Point there is aplace I have been talking about a lot. Horseshoe cove. What I did once and want to do it again before they shut it down is this. Carry our kayaks and fishing gear to the edge of the cliff and haul them down one by one until all our gear is down there . Then paddle out and fish some areas that dont get hit by a lot of boats. Richardsons property and the point of horseshoe. There is a small trail by the hiway where we would have to carry the kayaks for about 30 ft. then bring the tackle down with the wheels. Roll the kayaks to the edge trail and then carry them down. Go back and get the gear and after reverse all that effort to get back to the vehicles. This would be for the guy who is in shape and wiling to go all out for an experience that will never be able to be repeated after they close this part of our ocean forever. If you look in the picture there is a trail on the east side of the cove that goes down to the rocks.  I would not try this unless conditions are at the optimum for launching. There are way too many big rocks to think of a high surf landing. I would monitor the conditions and at the best time give a shout on hook-ups and it will be on. This post is to see if there is interest in this endeavor. The last time I did this I took 45 pounds of fish. 15 of it in a ling cod. We dove also. So with a limit of abs and all that fish we had a hell of a time packing it all out. Obviously this would be after the opener in June. I am alittle early but start thinking about it now. It will be here soon. Craig

No gear needed to lower kayaks. It takes two people per boat to carry down. !/4 mile across the field to the cliff trail.

Another picture of Horseshoe Cove. In this photo you can see the hiway up towards the top of the pic. You can tell how far we would have to carry and then down . Cool. June. Sometime in June so we can dive also.

Sounds like fun.
I've heard rumors about a group of kayak anglers that do this exact same thing every-other wknd in Big Sur....except its an even longer portage and more remote of an area. But they're probably just rumors....and no abs down there either.
