...IMO: on the tank well with a game clip - secured to the yak (with 3 ft of bungee) with a burlap sack over it....use your paddle and splash water onto the burlap sack as often as possible to keep the fish from drying up.

* burlap is cheap - does not collect odor - easy to clean (just wash with fresh water and dry under the sun) and the best of all = completely re-usable.

  Maybe it won't smell like fish,  :smt044 but burlap sacks do in fact stink after use!  Popular hanging garbage (Translate beer bottle bag) hung on jeep racks while on a trail.  I had one in use for many trips, sewed the bottom many times (To keep using it) now, in fairness to Mooches statement, "They don't collect odor" I never washed my jeep bag after use.  Although the occasional water crossing did get the burlap wet many times.
  I don't have one for kayak use, and I haven fished the oceans yet, so I can't really comment on if they will smell fishy or not. (yet)
