Pictures include a shot of me holding my favorite box call up in front of a cork oak tree. Another beautiful nights walk in the neighborhood.      Happy Hunting.....Turkeys

Hey Allen, I like your box call, but I love your neighborhood! Where did you get that box? Those gobblers reminds me of those domestic chickens back home. Scouting alone could be so much fun. What more if bowhunting!!!! I shoot with ChuckE almost every week at the Redwood Range trying to hone my skills and kick his behind (I get lucky sometimes) :smt009 . Anyway, it will be nice to hookup with you guys.

Dan, the season is longer with a bow?
I'm considering going after them with my bow as well. The pigs at Sonoma are a done deal middle of april and I'll need something to fill the need to shoot!
What're you shooting?

Juan,

You get an extra two or three weeks. I'll have to look at the regs again, but it is the same as the junior turkey extension. Kinda cool for the Old SKool method!

I think a bow is in my future. If I get one soon maybe I will have some confidence at it by next year.

Even if you've never shot a compound bow before, I bet you can consistently and confidently hit a tennis ball at 20 yards within a week.

I've reached the point where my target at 20 yards is a circle about the size of a half dollar coin, and if I'm not happy if an arrow lands outside of that ring.

I'd be happy to introduce anyone here to archery if interested. Just PM me.

I introduced Tailwalk to archery a few months ago, and now, he's not only addicted to the sport, but he's shooting as good as I am.  Very impressive!

That's about the size of a Vegas 10 ring, or a 5 spot X ring. Time to turn pro!

Thread bump, anybody do any good?  We had 4 different birds within ear-shot, but couldn't pull them in.  That was opening day.  For Sunday, same story.  Gave the spot a week to rest so we'll be back after them this Saturday.  If I ever find the cable for my camera I'll post some photos.  My "usual" spot is on a nice ridge over-looking a stock pond loaded w/ woodies, mallards & honkers (some nice bass too!).  Even if the gobblers don't co-operate, it's still an amazing show.

Didn't make the opener but just got back from Lake McClure area and my son got his first Tom today. Way exciting!  Nice bird with about a 9 inch beard.  We called like crazy and got one reply right away.  When we were picking up to leave, this Tom comes out of the bushes!  POW!~

Nicely done, just goes to show you never know what's hiding in the bushes.  I went out on Sunday, called in a nice one....but MISSED!  Shot just a bit far back, ended up with a handful of feathers and some busted pride.  I caught up with the bird a 1/2 hour later, just in time to see him running healthy over the next ridge.  I'll be back for him next weekend.

Ended the day fishing the farm pond for around 20 bass in 30 minutes, that makes it all better!

Yep.  I have never hunted the Redding area for birds.  Is there adequate public land to gain access to nie birds?

One thing you can do is get maps of BLM land.  It is virtually all open to hunting.  You can check online and you can buy BLM maps for about 6 bucks each.  I thought it might be worth asking a real estate agent about maps denoting private lands next to BLM or state land.  Any agents out there who could help out, or am I just crazy?

Any of you guys have a good recipe for cooking a wild turkey???  I baked the last one and it was pretty good. I didn't pluck it, I skinned it and covered the breat with bacon.  Any other recipes would be appreciated.
