Got a call from Rickey Noel Mitchell of Paddle and Flies yesterday.
It appears he hasn't been on the water for a while and really wanted to try his luck at Blackhawk lake (30 miles N.E. of Fresno). As usual we got a late start and were on the water around 10am. After about 20 minutes of nothing I tried a Jig in Brown/Green and when I placed it near a large bolder with a steep drop off near by i felt the thump that would start the day with a big smile. As I set the hook I felt it pull across a rock and than over a log. After a nice fight and a lot of splashing I was able to bring her aboard and call Rickey over to take the picture (see below). We got the shot but I made the mistake of letting Rickey hold on to my Camera as we each took off in opposite directions. About 20 minutes later I came across a long grass bed in about 4 feet of water. The water temp was about 60 degrees so I tied on a swimbait and started to work the flat. on the 3rd cast I felt the sweet thump and saw what appeared to be a 5 pounder come out of the water and head for the other end of the lake. After another great and very acrobatic fight she came to the boat and was a twin sister of the first fish. As if the day couldn't get any better 5 minutes later I decide to throw the Jig again and another heavy Thump and it's game on again. This fish fought even harder than the first two and pulled the T-15 a good distance before I was able to get a hold of her. Even though she was the best fighter of the three she was about 3/4 the size of the other 2.
We called it a day at 1:00 as Rickey had to be at work by 2:00. Not bad for 4 hours of fishing. My only regret was letting Ricky keep my camera and not getting a shot of the other fish.

That's bigger than 5 pounds, looks to be pushing 6 to 7 to me!  Very nice looking fish.  I'll have to put that lake on my list to try sometime.

Thanks for the report.

Good luck on your next trip.
