One of my karate students (and fellow Team Half-Fast paintballer) is also a graphic artist.  I've been bugging him about creating an image that I can make into a vinyl kayak decal, and here's what he came up with.  :smt004

Being a smartass his first version included a tiny fish...

But I think this is the one I'll go with...

Now I just need to get him out on a kayak!  :smt003

Wow!!!  I really like that 1st one!!!

If it were to become available, I'd like one for my yellow WS T160i.  The black, red, white would jump off the yellow yak.

:smt003 I'll pass the compliment along Zee, and tell him it came from a dude quite skilled in graphic art.

I just talked to him last nite in class...he said he just needs me to give him the dimensions I want, and details about the surface (curved or flat, smooth or bumpy, etc).  After that he'll pick up the materials and print the decals, then come install them on my yak.  I guess it's a semi-tricky process...do it wrong and you get air bubbles.  He's the pro so I'll take his word.  Gonna pull the yak out today and eyeball the area I'm thinking about placing the decal so I can take measurements.

BTW, he told me to pass along word that he's available for hire if any of you like the final product.  Said he's always willing to earn a little fishing money...  :smt005  If anyone is interested let me know and I'll pass along his contact info.

Where do you go to have your vinyl decals made?

Me?  In the past I got my buddy to do it for me, since he was "in da biz".  He'd use scraps left over from other jobs, so I never had to pay for the materials.  These days he's only doing side work so I'll have to cover the material costs...he still has connections though, I think an old co-worker who has a printing machine.  Other NCKA'ers might have a commercial connection they'd like to recommend...

Well, I'm no graphic artist, but I am trying to make some decals myself.  Saw this youtube video that inspired me to give it a try!

Nice video. I think they'll work great for indoor applications. But for outdoor applications I worry they would most likely wear out from the sun and water pretty fast. Maybe in 6 months or so. Most outdoor stickers have a UV inhibitor in the ink and are printed on a plastic that won't break down in the sun. Interested to see how it comes out.

They sell some other products that are meant for waterslides, I was thinking of trying that out.

Yeah, the stuff my buddy is using isn't vinyl...something that's more wear-resistant that's designed for outdoor use...he even said the saltwater wouldn't effect it.  I'll ask him exactly what it is next time I see him.
