Showed up at caspar just after 10 only to find serenity, so we headed over to Big River.
(big thanks to DaveW for the info)
There we found what we were looking for. It was cold, rainy, and uninviting.
Brought a steep creeker buddy of mine along and while he was still getting ready I set out for my first wave on the Kaos. Just turned out that it was the wave and the ride of the day.
still have permagrin!  the Kaos rips from the hips.
my friend was in a playboat and struggled. just wasnt quick enough to make enough distance between waves.
Then one of the "locals" arrived to show us how its done.
Still feeling confident from the first ride and noticing things were starting to get bigger I charged back out. Didnt quite have the power that came so easily earlier and the waves were tougher to climb over. I made it out past the breakers but out of gas and sucking wind.
Of course now is when they really start to stand up and instead of waiting until Im feeling strong I decide to be an idiot.
I didnt have the power to catch the wave but I did manage to let it push me deep into "the zone".
I looked over my shoulder to see the next wave rising up. I spun the Kaos around to charge but it was too late.
after that I was done, so we paddle over to a outfitter to check out the wood and glass outriggers and take a pic of their boat storage.
It was a great day and the Kaos finally got wet.
I also learned exactly how far out of shape I am.
Should have done the BLOTY :spiderman:

Terry ...I think the key word in your post was "uninviting"!! Looking forward to a salt water refresher if you plan another get together.

It wasnt all that big out there, I just have to work on my cardio.
Though I do enjoy it being a little spooky, the caper, the mini-x, ect, would have been fine out there.
one would think that those with WW experience could jump right onto a wave but its not the case.
Atleast it wasnt for me and definately not Bernie. A C4 paddler that had a pretty rough day. Alot had to do with his boat selection but even on the kaos he had to swim.
The hydrology is different and it takes time to figure it out.

Still stoked on how the Kaos performed but I disagree with the name. Should have been called Kontrol. There is a design flaw in the scupper hole. You need to have the plug removed when you are punching your way out through the surf but have to put it in before you jump onto a wave.
As soon as you lean forward to slice into the transition you get blasted in the face from the hole.
IM BLIND! then Kaboom!

It seemed like more folks were interested in Doran so Ill be headed there next, But ill definately be retuning to Big river, Caspar, and going to try Virgin creek.

really is a great chance to work on your launch and re entry skills before the season starts.

A.S
thats not my collection. I try to limit myself to only 4 boats each with specific uses.
Those boats belong to a great shop right on the river. They had some beautiful outriggers that looked slippery sweet. It was also a MTB shop and had a great selection of golf discs.
The dude told us that if we rented the outriggers we couldnt take them in the surf.

That Kaos looks huge next to you. Mine is only about 9'. That thing looks 12' I agree with you about the hole and the face wash everytime you catch a wave. I was thinking if there was a flexible flap over it, the water would be kept out during the ride and would still drain when your in the wash. They handle the waves great, you can even cut back and forth with them, but man are they unstable just sitting there. You have to constantly brace your self with your paddle, or your over for sure. First time I took mine out, I tried the stability out and was over before I know what happened. I think they should be called "fun"...  :smt001
