With all the bass action I keep seeing in the reports, I'd like to get out and try fishing the Delta for my first time on a yak.  But I'm busy this weekend, and next (DVFnC!)  Think I could do the 28/29th if anyone is interested.

Only problem is, I have no clue where to launch, what to watch out for, or even what tackle I should focus on trying.

Last time I fished the delta was in 04 from the shore  :smt009 at some place called Sugarbarge?  Didn't catch much from what I recall but channel cat's and baby strippers.

So whats a good place to launch and fish from?  Antioch / Pittsburgh is all I know of really...  Any local tackle shops I can count on for advice out there?

if you want to fish a place that EVERYONE ELSE fishes too. Big Break in Antioch will be your best for: lots of vegetation, easy launch 5$, GotchaBait is off of Hwy4 in Antioch(live minnows and all the other stuff too) and if there is any current flowing, the fish should be near it or at least eating by then. It's a shallow flooded island with lots of LMB STRUCTURE in and around it.
Senkos would be my weapon of fling(only because i don't catch them on anything else i toss them)
We can discuss this to great length......NEXT WEEK at DV*Fn'C !! :smt005

Big Break is a dead zone, no fish(!)  All kidding aside, there are two things I can offer about BB.  The launch is now ten bucks thanks to the new(er) owners.  Also, pay attention to the forecast winds.  Like FH said, Big Break is a large flooded island.  It is exposed to the west and can develop white caps when it is blowing out there.  It usually becomes uncomfortable and limiting at 10-15.

Only problem is, I have no clue where to launch, what to watch out for, or even what tackle I should focus on trying.

For lures try anything weedless (like a senko, creature baits or like others a jig will work) if your working the tules, weed area particularly shallow water more to the shoreline.  I match mines with 30lb braided line but you can also use 10-14lb fluorocarbon and if you're using a jig go 50lb braided or 20lb flourcarbon line.  Outside of the weedlines and in flats use suspending jerk/rip baits, lipless crakbait, flat crakbait, or square-bill crankbait (medium depth divers anywhere from 4-9ft) to help you cover more areas faster.  I match mines with 10-12lb fluorocarbon to do the trick.  Some like mono cause they say it helps them cast farther, me I like using fluoro.  Hope this helps out some.
