Hi Craig,

Don't blame yourself, we both tried to do what's best. The hooks wil rusted-out in a couple weeks and I know this tough fish will make it and ready for the next fight.

Abking,

I've thought about bringing the fish up for better photo, but this might do more harm to the fish or worse yet, Craig or me could fall off the kayak while trying to bring this powerful fish on board.  My yak is only 9' long and this fish is around 7', it would be very tough to bring a live fish this big onto my yak! :smt003

Let me see...

- Clam digging last Saturday
- Sturgeon fishing last Sunday
- Camping and fishing at Del Valle the following weekend.
- Sturgeon fishing this Sunday?

I think my wife will kill me, but I'll try  :smt003

Congratulations Sonny!  That's a great experience.  Thanks for sharing.  Sounds like Ravensblack got as much out of the escapade as you did.  Nice work guys!

I read most of the comments and the only piece of advice I would offer for next time is that if you drop the anchor, you'll have a FAR easier time handling the fish, getting a snare on it, removing hooks, etc.  When you are drifting at the same speed as the fish, it'll be easy to get the fish up against the yak instead of having to fight the current.

Again... nice work... you're making me jealous.  Life is too busy for me at the moment such that I can't see myself on the water any time real soon.  I'll just have to fish vicariously.  Keep 'em coming.

Hi EK,

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that next time when I hook another Sturgeon (hope it'll be a legal one this time around).  :smt001

Interesting, I have still been going over my Loss and wishing I HAD NOT Released the anchor. Basically, everything went Downhill ( or Down Stream ) after the release of the anchor.

Your comments are making me feel like I did do the right thing, but still, when working a area with boats, or snags like what you see on the Upper Sac or a Fierce Outgo Tide...

Tough Call, guess just some more food for thought while Battling Monster Dino's....

 Nice Job Sunny

Congrats on the oversize!

Since I don't ever keep sturgeon I believe BIGGER is BETTER!

Must've been an awesome battle.

Sailfish-I saw all of you guys out there.  The girlfriends father invited me out on his boat and we fished near the pump house, came by China Camp, caught a bullhead, striper and a flounder.  We finished up near the bridge, but no sturgeon.  We fished all the way until 5pm when the wind picked up big time.  Although we didn't catch any sturgeon, we at least didn't get beached like the poor bastard we saw coming back to the ramp in his sailboat-he must have been there til midnight with the tides.

Great job out there.  I can't wait to hit China Camp with the yak.   :smt001
