per tent: $25.00
per person day use: $10.00
per family day use: $15.00

I understand the idea to charge for those camping but don't get why we'd have to pay for day use.  Feel like I'm having to pay to hangout with the famous.  Just curious as to the reason for this.

BTW, officially in.

And would be up for a MBF.  I propose AOTY style where we accrue points for each species seeing as how DV holds all 4 freshwater species although it takes away from the "Chillin" aspect.  Whatever is decided, I'm in.

Joel, if the PFD I ordered arrives at Aquan by then, what are the possibilities I pick it up from you at the event?

Michael, There isn't a fishing area ,that we could gather in the East Bay, that is free like events others have organized. And I am sure that those who organize those events put out monetarally so that we can gather and enjoy the comeraderie that NCKA has to offer. As you pointed out this lake contains a wide varity of fresh water fish and also has the ideal camp ground to support our size group. The down side is that there are registration/reservation fees as well as deposits which have to be covered before hand which total several hundred dollars. We are asking that in support that those who attend help with these cost.
Last years gathering cost Joel (who never mentioned it on the board) out of pocket money. A group of us believe he didn't have to do this alone, so, some of us are putting are money where are vocal cords are and helping out! So rather than an individual taking on the total cost we are asking that all those attending help out with the costs. Even the famous must pay  :smt004 who ever they maybe?
So until we get a group of say 15 campers we have not covered the out of pocket expense.
When we do cover our overhead, that is when the fun begins, I hoping this can become a yearly event, I have some ideas I would like to share with the gang who participate on this weekend. I have a couple of ideas brewing to make this a East Bay Kayakers of NCKA a yearly spring kicker.
So for now I believe that we are on the right track and yaking on the water is our goal.

I've paid up but I wanted to post a quick word of advice for anybody attending:
CLEAN AND DRY YOUR KAYAK BEFORE YOU GO!
It would be a terrible shame if you paid to come camping with us and got turned away at the boat inspection. Your boat needs to be mud free outside and inside, and dry inside and outside. The only exception is if it is raining they won't ding you for the outside of your boat being wet, but the inside better be dry.

I was hoping we wouldn't do this without you!

And take heed to Fishing-Jays input they are serious about this crustacean inspection!

I went fishing at Del Valle today, no fish for me the water was to cloudy by the launch area I should have paddled to the Dam to troll for trout where the water was clearer. I did manage to snap a shout of the NCKA camp site for the Fish & Chill #2, the water is nice and high plenty of nice parking for all the yaks :smt007.

The whole point of the Fish N' chill is simply to Fish N' chill......but any of you want to do a little competition thing, I'm not against it at all....but I'll have to collect half of what the winner ends up with  :smt002

*I will post the potluck on the local event forum

Looking forward to this event!!!!!

*By the way, I plan on bringing my mountain bike for some night time riding - anyone else up for a ride?

Joel just don't get off your bike and wonder down a trail  :smt003

As springtime calls people and snakes alike to the outdoors, encounters with snakes become inevitable. California has a variety of snakes, most of which are benign. The exception is California’s only native venomous snake - the rattlesnake.

The dos and don’ts in snake country:

First, know that rattlesnakes are not confined to rural areas. They have been found near urban areas, in river or lakeside parks, and at golf courses. Be aware that startled rattlesnakes may not rattle before striking defensively. There are several safety measures that can be taken to reduce the likelihood of startling a rattlesnake.

• Never go barefoot or wear sandals when walking through wild areas. Wear hiking boots.

• When hiking, stick to well-used trails and wear over-the-ankle boots and loose-fitting long pants. Avoid tall grass, weeds and heavy underbrush where snakes may hide during the day.

• Do not step or put your hands where you cannot see, and avoid wandering around in the dark. Step ON logs and rocks, never over them, and be especially careful when climbing rocks or gathering firewood. Check out stumps or logs before sitting down, and shake out sleeping bags before use.

• Never grab “sticks” or “branches” while swimming in lakes and rivers. Rattlesnakes can swim.

• Be careful when stepping over the doorstep as well. Snakes like to crawl along the edge of buildings where they are protected on one side.

• Never hike alone. Always have someone with you who can assist in an emergency.

• Do not handle a freshly killed snake, it can still inject venom.

• Teach children early to respect snakes and to leave them alone. Children are naturally curious and will pick up snakes.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
