I finally am ready to set my kayak up with My

Cannon Sporttroll Downrigger
and

My lowrance fishfinder, and I'm all excited except one snag...

I dont want to buy a shoot thru-hull transducer right now, and I'm not quite sure how i should hook up my transducer...

Thanks

you dont need a specific shoot thru hull transducer.  a normal transom transducer will shoot through the hull i think (unless lowrance has a specific weird shape?).  just make sure it is facing the right way (down) when you mount it inside the hull.

I'm pretty sure Lowrance and Eagle are the same company and my Eagle transom mount transducer shoots through the hull just fine. You don't need to buy a special transducer unless you are doing the scupper hole installation.

Unless there's been a change in transducer design, the transom mount should work just fine from inside the hull  the trick is to get snug air free contact between the transducer and hull. This can be done with glue or a doughnut that holds the transducer in place and is also able to hold water around the transducer.

Without getting longwinded here, there are allot of old posts with pictures on how to do this, use the search function.

This kind of install is not normally advised (although it works) so the reps may not know about it.

I'll work just fine

I gooped my first 3 kayaks with tranducers which meant I had to use three transducers. This was a total waste IMO.
I find that by gooping a cut-out pool noodle and putting a little water inside works fine and is WAY more convenient.
I can now use the exact same FF/Tranducer in 4 of my kayaks.
It is a lot easier to clean this way too.
As for the Lowerance not shooting through the hull; sonar is sonar. Unless I am missing something here it shouldn't be a problem. If anyone knows any different please educate me.

so you jus put water in the pool noddle then the transducer? when ever you take the yak out do you repeat the same thing as for filling the noodle up again?

If you get the GIANT diameter pool noodle it will.

Yes and yes. I can install and remove the whole unit, ff, transducer, and power supply in less than 30 seconds. That makes it easy to clean and interchangeable with all my kayaks.

Also, it doesn't have to be a pool noodle - there are tons of foam material you could find to use for this. It's just that pool noodles are cheap & easy and so many ppl already have some for flotation, etc. Kind of the item of 101 uses.
You could probably find free scrap foam to use, as long as it can be cut to the right size & will hold water & the transducer snugly. Chances are that something sitting around your house or work that you could use for this. Check carton packaging & stuff like that.

Adding to the question about filling it up, it only takes a tiny bit of water, maybe a couple teaspoons.
