Troy here, Formerly Jprtroy now CGN-38.  I decided to change to CGN-38 because my old Jprtroy was from my jeepin days when every weekend (Especially the 3 day weekends) I was up in the Sierras wheeling the Rubicon, Duzy earshim or Sierra trek.  Anything related to 4 wheeling /camping and my Jeep.  Well I thought that having "Jprtroy" stenciled on the bow of my OB would look funny, and out of place. (Jpr is short for Jeeper) since my outback is not a jeep, (Maybe handles like one, but isn't one) I decided to go with something a little more nautical.
CGN-38 was the ship I was on while in the Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA. My rate was an "Operations Specialist" (Radar operator)  In the movie "Top Gun" the guy sitting at the radar screen, with the commander tuggin on the stoggie behind him, well that operator was an "Operation Specialist" Thats what I did.

So eventually I'll stencil my new handle to the bow of my outback, so I'll be more recognizable on the water.

Cool beans, Troy.

It's interesting to note that most boats are named and referred to as a seperate, (female) entity...  But most of the kayaks here are stenciled with the handle of the person...

Our kayaks are part of us rather than something seperate.

This is my kayak.  There are many like it but this one is mine.  Without my kayak I am nothing, and without me my kayak is nothing...

Cool name change CGN, I was wondering about that!

LOL, with apologies to my fellow Marines...

The Kayak Fisherman's Creed:
This is my kayak. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My kayak is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I master my life. My kayak, without me, is useless. Without my kayak, I am useless. I must paddle my kayak true. I must fish better than any fish who is trying to elude me. I must catch him before he gets away. I will....

My kayak and myself know that what counts in this life is not the fish we catch, the noise of our celebration, nor the smoked fish we make. We know that it is the hits that count. The fish will hit...

My kayak is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weakness, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its paddle and its rudder. I will keep my kayak clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God I swear this creed. My kayak and myself are the providers of my family. We are the masters of the water. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until the season has ended and there is no fish to catch, but Peace.

My first kayak was a red Prijon Yukon Tour. After watching the Hunt for Red October I named it "Krasnaya Akula" or "red shark". I sold it to a guy in the bay area when I moved to SC. I haven't named any of my recent boats, but I keep thinking I will, and find myself thinking "that would be a cool kayak name" whenever I come across an interesting phrase or title.

see you OTW, CGN-38!

my kayak's a big ugly overweight piece of plastic that gets me on the fish

I thought about naming it Jackson in honor of a big boar some friends of mine had

If you scratched his nuts he'd let you ride him around the corral

Well Troy, I'll recognize your avatar for years to come!  First time we met was that day!

Hummm... reminds me that a friend said I had to name my kayak, cause its bad luck to sail a unnamed ship apparently. And I'm not sure what I'll do about my handle if I get that T13 I've been itching to buy...  I'm bad with names ;)

Hey Al,  be thankfull your kayak is not a ship!  I wasn't CGN at Loch Lomond last season, (Mar 08) Just thought of something, being the lazy SOb that I really am, CGN is shorter than my old handle!  Less for me to stencil on! :smt044
