I have a vintage Malibu two that does not currently have any hatches on it.  I am planning to install a fishfinder soon and would like to place the transducer inside the hull, so I think it's time for a hatch or two.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what type of hatch to install?  There are three raised flat circle areas just in front of each seat, so I assume this is the location where I should install the hatch?  Any suggestions as to where to order the hatches from would also be helpful?  Also which of three possible hatch locations would be most helpful for mounting a fishfinder in the future?

Thanks,
Brian 3Dog

You need to get Gaspachi hatches for those circles... they're like thick rubber tupperware lids.

You can see the hatches in some of the photos in this thread...

Here are the hatches... pricey little buggers... most Ocean Kayak dealers should have them.

I used the OK hatches on my Malibu two. They are the rubber ones that fit tight. I bought the hatch kits from adventure sports in Sacramento. The kit includes the loops, rivets and the hatch. I've seen them on the OK web site also.

You are correct on the mounting. They go on the three round flat things.
I used a roto tool to cut the holes.

Here's a link:

I would guess where you mount your ff depends on where you are going to sit. Middle or rear? My ff is an old portable and isn't mounted.

Thanks for the help.  I knew you all would come through.  I never thought to even look at the ocean kayak site.

So assuming I am solo and sitting in the middle seat of my malibu two, any suggestion as to which hatch would provide the best access for installing a fishfinder transducer?

Thanks again,

I have both the mid and forward hatches installed.

I use the middle hatch for stowing and accessing gear while fishing.

I have my Fishfinder battery installed below the forward hatch and my transducer is mounted in an area between the mid and forward hatches... can be accessed equally well from either hatch.  I put the FF transducer farther forward than I typically slide my gear so that it won't be in the way or get bumped repeatedly.
