we're gonna be down near santa barbara in May, and i found a little lake that is loaded with blue gills...thought it might be perfect for Ava to watch dada fishing-- she's only two, so i doubt she can do much else but watch.  I remember actually fishing by the time i was 4, but can't recall if we went earlier...

any thoughts?

I think CHUB was about 18 months old. This was pre-kayak days. I had a float tube and I purchased another one for him. I put either a plastic booster seat or cheap car seat in it ( I am not sure which I used ) and towed him along with me.
The waders were a CHEAP pair I got from K-mart; folded and duct taped to fit. This was before waders or wetsuits were made for such things.

Jelly was going at it when he was 2...no bluegill was safe.  Paige started when she was 3.  Elsie is 6 and still thinking about it.

My Daughter Hannah was about 6 when she caught her first, and last Hat Creek trout.
I took a photo of her holding it up with a big smile on her face and I look at it often to remember the innocence
of her youth. That was 14 years ago and fishing is the last thing on her mind, why do they have to grow up so fast? :smt010

Liz was 3 when she caught a big crappie out of Horseshoe lake in Chico and Ty was just under 2 for his first trout out of Donner Lake in Truckee.

I've got to get the picture scanned, I think about 18 months,  Both of the guys with their tricycles and Zebcos in the front basket pedaling around Spring Lake...

and Damm, if they did not put a Fish Plant right in front of us...

They took to it like Otters,

Those Zebcos worked like a charm too, really easy for kids to get the hang of casting in no time...

 Thanks for the memories      :smt006

Yea, I was just thinking, he must've learned how to read early, too. Rumor has it he read "the book" before it was even published.

Steve, while you are at it you had better pick up some bigger tackle while you are there...they grow up quick.

Thats pretty cool Allen. You are right. They grow up real fast, real fast. As for me Novato High School 1971. My son Andy caught his first fish at around 5 at Wrights lake. The same as me a long , long time ago. That was 1958.
