Hi all.

What's an inexpensive kayak anchor. I need an anchor to use while I am bass fishing Folsom Lake to hold position when it is windy. Typically the bottom is rock with rock and I don't want to cry everytime I feed an anchor to the rock gods.

I have an old 10- or 15-pound mushroom anchor I picked up at a garage sale for $3 and it works good, but is a real pain pulling up and down.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience using some weight, chain, window sash, etc... which would hold the boat relatively still while cheap and potentially disposable? I just want to be facing the right direction with an anchor trolley moving slow enough that I can effectively fish the structure. Kinda like a redneck trolling motor.

Thanks!

I use a recycled track pin bushing off a D6 (or smaller) Caterpillar tractor.

It was free and I really don't care if I lose it.

I'll bet that works like a rolling pin when a lot of tension is on the anchor line. Go to garage sales and eventually you will find an old weight belt. This is the cheapest way to find an anchor that will stick and not cost alot to replace.5 pounds should anchor your kayak at any lake.

You'd think it would. I've been using this for a couple years and have never had that problem
while fishing lakes or ponds. Seems to dig in or catch on a rock.
I wouldn't use it or offer advise if it didn't work for me.

fence post concrete in a old soda bottle cut in half (less if you want it heavier). hang an eye bolt in as its drying....done and you can make it any weight you want. Heck if you loose it you are 'adding structure' This entire set up can't cost more then $6 and you can make 25+ lbs of anchors....OR or use your salmon ball lead like were gonna need them any time soon. Although lead aint exactly cheap these days

Why not use a gallon plastic milk jug? Tie a rope on the handle, fill it with water (that shouldn't be very hard to find),drop it down, anchored. Plus, when you pull it up and empty it, it weighs virtually nothing for the paddlle to shore.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Just curious as to what makes that bottle of water heavier than the surrounding water , it WON"T SINK !   :smt044

:smt005 My wife thought that was pretty funny.  Just use a salmon wt or fill a cloth bag with sand.

Try a section of heavy chain,
The chain will stop the kayak but wont snag in rocks and trees
Store in a sand bag

Just my 2 cents on chains and iron anchors I think they make too much noise and can alarm fish why be in a stealthy Kayak and have your anchor banging around lead or sand filled bags are much quieter.

5lb "Danforth" I think is the style, (2  dull flukes that pivot) works for me.  Got it at K-mart for $8-10 (long time ago) 1.5' length of light duty chain connects it to my line.

I tried the "Folding" 1.5lb style anchor that came witn OB fishermans package, it it just didn't hold well at all.  This 5lb'er  holds my OB solid.

I think it's the same water that fills your waders and causes you to sink and drown.

Of course it won't sink! Must have been a bad case of cranial-rectal inversion I had. I've revealed my stupidosity and haven't even fished with any of you guys yet. I even took a Physics course in college. I'll try not to let that happen again.
