I hit the lake early afternoon.  At the launch I bumped in to fellow NCKA member Sashimi.  I was a bit emberased because I was launching a stock Pungo 100 with two fishing rods wedged between my legs.  I trolled/drifted for 4 hours straight with not so much as a bite.  I threw everything at them : worms, apex, rapalla, needlefish etc. etc.  About 30 min til sunset the fish started biting.  I had a heavy feeling hookup, but I lost it after a mad run.  Within 20 minutes of that first bite I had 5 more fish on, 3 of them landed.

Pics to come later.

Wow!!! That place is like kryponite to me. I haven't pulled a single fish out of that lake. I may have to give it another try before i close the book on it for good.

Way to go, ATF - sticking it out until the bite turned on in a less desired boat is admirable.  I'll look forward to those pics.   :smt001

Nice job! You got that place figured out.

My son and I did a 14.7 mile ride around the lake. Made a stop on the old bridge and said hello to a kayaker fishing below. Blue kayak, rods on the knees...must have been you? Looked like a nice day on the water.

Here's a couple cell phone pics looking up river and our gps tracks.

Nice job ATF. I've been skunked a few times at Natoma, but it's close so I keep going back.

It was nice to meet you out at the lake ATF.  I fished the lake for about 4 hours and didn't even get one bite.  So, the only pictures I have to share are of the scenery.  And there was no need to feel embarassed, after all, you caught fish :smt001.

Wow that looks like a really beautiful lake.  Looks kinda like a canyon, does it get big time wind?

Way to stick it out ATF.  I'd much rather have a late bite, than an early bite which fizzles.  Something about that last minute action is sooooooo satisfying

Geno,
I took the pictures with a 6.0 Mega Pixel Polaroid that I got at Target for ~$90.00.  It's actually my field camera for work (i.e. something that I won't get too upset over if it gets run over by a dozer, or falls in the water for that matter).

Bummer that you didn't catch anything Sashimi.  How do you fish Natoma?  IM using lead core and staying at about 15 to 20 feet deep.  Since the lake bed depth is so variable, I am afraid to go any deeper without a fish finder.

It was nice to finally meet a NCKA member.  If you  (or anyone for that matter) is interested in doing some serious sierra trout fishing this spring, I would like to take a group to Hell Hole as soon as the lake is accessible.

ATF if I lived closer I would jump at the chance to fish Hell Hole with you guys maybe we can cross paddles one day when I visit my daughters.

ATF,

I have a hate-hate relationship with Lake Natoma. I spent lots of time there the last three years fishing for bass and only have one fish to show for it. The reason I keep going at it is one day about two years ago I was down by flat across from CSUS docks and there were these two smallmouth cruising the shallows and they were about 4-pounds each. Been trying to catch one ever since....

Never even thought about trying for trout, will have to get me some lead core.

Thanks for the info and maybe one of these Sundays we can hook up~!
