There should definitely be bait available down there, but it wouldn't hurt to bring some...

I'd say the chances of pulling some abs is about 99%, but the chances of having more than a foot or two of vis is about 20%...  We'll get 'em.   :smt001

Buy squid where you live and freeze it. Take it in an ice chest. That's what I do. Rockfish don't care if it's dead.

That's the problem, no squid in Red Bluff.  I can get as much anchovies or ghost shrimp as I want do to the Salmon and Sturgeon fishing here, but no squid.  Sad I know.......

Good deal Abking, I will hope for some visibility; but would be fine with a few feet.  Just as long at I can see the Ab before sticking my hand in some dark hole or crevasse.  I got a nice little dive light last season to try out as well.  Hopefully to spot some monster Ab's way up in the rocks!

I buy the 3lb box of squid from Safeway (Seawave brand is best). These squid are generally larger and cleaner, as they're intended for human consumption. Anyways, I cut the block of frozen squid into 3 chunks and slip those into gallon ziplock bags. And just bring one ziplock per trip.

Do you just saw through the block into three equal chunks?  That's brilliant, never thought about that.  Have always just peeled them off whole, one by one, like you would do with sticky licorice redvines.

Yes, using a butcher knife I chop it into 3 big chunks (often slicing some of the squid in half, but that doesn't matter). It takes some pressure and a sharp knife. But it works wonders! Most of the time, I only use 5-8 squid per trip. And it sucks to toss half of a box in the garbage at the end of the day...just because it's all thawed and icky.
I'll usually put two of the big blocks into gallon ziplocks, then cut the third block in half and put those 2 pieces into regular ziplocks (for short trips).
Also, having squid in ziplocks on the deck is very handy. Less mess and easy to access.

Better buy your squids at your local supermarket since it will cost you more (about double) at the general store in SC.  I'll bring extra in case someone forgot to buy it the day before leaving for SC.

Hey guys!

Do you mind if I put a sign up in the store about the event for the kayak anglers that come in?

I also checked and can give a 15% off on any fishing/kayak gear to club members at Pro Sport Center. Just look for me when you come in!
