Domenic was kind enough to show me the ropes today - my first time perch fishing in all my years growing up here!  He set me up with the tackle and baited my hook even (once!   :smt002)  - I provided the ice for the beer and we waited out a pretty good bite by sunset.  I scored first with a double of a legal and a dink (legal is 10"+).  I scored a couple more and released a couple more dinks, and Domenic rounded out the action with 3 slabs in a row right before sunset.  The bite wasn't as red hot as it's been for Domenic lately, but it was good enough to turn me on to this new kind of fishing.  The weather and water at the mouth today was exceptional - no wind, 60's, small swell...  rare for sure.

Thanks, Domenic, for guiding me on a great time.   :smt001

Nice!  thanks for sharring. I always heard a lot about the Redtail perching in that area from people who i've met At the Chetco River in OR. I just live to darn far to explore it. These last few post of this, makes me feel crazy and head up for a visit.

Abking we have to hook-up :fish :fish

It's the mouth of the Eel River, TW.

Well, perch was a lot softer than any other fish I've ever tried to cook and eat, so I'll need more R&D to figure out the best preparations for the delicate filets.  Sounds like less cooking time and more brining are in order.  It was a great meal though, and soooooo mild.   :smt001

Well, yeah, of course you should!  I noticed that you almost always release - aversion to finned critters?

I was raised on fish...everyday, not "what's for dinner", but "how will it be cooked this time?" :smt012
I do let them all go, but I ask that they grant me three wishes in return.
