There have been a couple of threads that have generated a lot of interest recently.  One is a non-yak rockie outing, and the other is a discussion of Nor-cal's tastiest rockcod.   Emotions have run deep.  I propose we combine the two concepts into a winner-take-all, shore-fishing, beer-drinking fiesta and tasting session.  Families and significant others (esp, ones who like to cook) welcome.

Here is the idea.  We find a nice low tide and get 8-10 dudes chucking bait off the rocks or poke-poling.  Meanwhile we get a nice fire going.  Anything caught instantly gets filleted and put on ice, preserving the flavor.  The bones go into the chowder pot, and we make a fish broth, strain, add potatoes, cream and fillets, and have a great soup feast.  But the Main Even occurs later.  You see, we keep a nice specimen of each species we catch, and have them "a la plancha" as they say. Translation: cleaned, scaled and nailed to a plank in front of the fire.  We cook each fish EXACTLY the same way at the same time.  Then each of us grabs a fork and piece of lemon, and we settle this once and for all.   Mano a mano  Just lemon or butter; no BBQ, curry, mayo, horseradish, Aunt Jemima syrup etc to hide behind.  The real deal.  The winner is decided by a vote (or else, who yells loudest..).

Naturally this is shore fishing, and we are unlikely to get deepwater species to really have a representative sampling of all the species, but I think we can plan on greenling, cabbies, MFE, blues and maybe a ling.  BTW, I am predicting greenling to go ALL THE WAY!

Leftover fillets get split evenly.  Any interest?

An added teaser: how about having it in an area slated for MLPA closure?  A last shot before the curtain goes down...

Better yet, let's have it IN a current MLPA.  We can get some paintball rifles, when the authorities come, we color them yellow.

Could be like a picnic, protest, and paintball contest all at once!!

Or maybe build a driftwood trebuchet, and splatter them with the soup dregs?

Abking can take videos.

Any NCKA members of the Bar, for the after party get together?

Yours in Jest,

Allen

Damn SC Hippie Activist :hippy2:
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
