St Denis posts on the sniffer. He caught a big Mac a few weeks ago that had like 5 planter bows inside its stomach! How cool would it be to catch a hitchhiking mac?!!!

Wow, I never even considered Tahoe this winter. That would be great  :smt007. Presidents Day would probably work, as would others. We went out with Gene Genie last winter and it was the coldest I have even been in my entire life; the water was freezing instantly when is splashed on the windshield of the boat. I did get a nice mack tho'. GSD made me stand outside on the deck to get a better shot. He's a cheeky sadist that one. He had to pour boiling water on me afterwards*. I was like Han Solo in carbonite.

It would be great to be out there in warmer weather macking on the yak.

* This part not actually true. Tho' it might have been nice.

I haven't tried lake trout in the winter.  In the summer they are deep and you can troll for them with a down rigger, but I've had better luck jigging for them.  Use your rock fishing rig (spectra with a  topshot) with small 2-3 oz iron jigs.  I like my jigs with a bit of glow in the dark/white.

Hey FH... think of them as freshwater lings and fish'em the same way.  I wouldn't know first hand, since I've never caught one, but that's what Freddie and Stu have done successfully in the past.

Yeah, I too have no clue what to do for catching the macks.  Was told to jig a minnow with a glowing bead ahead of the hook, like a striper rig in 120FOW or more.  Bring your minnow traps, I know that much from Tote's help last year!

Whats the general concesnous on where to stay/launch then?

Jigging for macks isn't all that hard as long as you can find them. Standard rock fishing gear will do. You can also topline for them. Jigging is the easiest though. I remember the first time I yakked Tahoe. Stuie told me it'll be easy... he was right. It was a great day on the Lake.

Hope to be there with you guys...

Freddie
